Yeah Wally’s fight was something to behold. Looking at the 2nd just remind me how stupid it was.

Yeah the wally fight sucked when you read it on a weekly basis since it dragged on forever but if you just read it from beginning to end, it's actually sort of unintentionally hilarious.

The 1208 raws are available.

Kumi arranges a referral for Ippo to go see a brain specialist, after a discussion about CTE with him. Ippo does a full round of scans and finds that while he's showing some symptoms, he isn't fully punch drunk, but he's at a high risk if he chooses to continue boxing the way he does. Ippo then visits the gym, and has a meeting with Kamogawa, where he declares that he's retiring while he's still relatively healthy, and after a farewell from Takamura, he does the leaf-catching exercise from the start of the series.

1208 ends with a statement saying that it will continue on to the next issue - ergo, not done yet.

So honestly, what's the best case scenario here to end the series? There's obviously going to be a timeskip, but will it be a timeskip just to show us some resolution to the other characters, or a timeskip so Ippo can pull a Date and come out of retirement?

Woli was an actual solid textbook boxer but Ippo's brain damage was that strong that he imagined the whole jungle shenanigans.

I hope the ending is Ippo going to the championship brain damaged only to fight a trained Woli who instantly kos him.

The doctor looks at Ippo's brain scans, sighs, and says "Ippo....you're already dead." Ippo's eyes open in shock and his body begins to decompose now that the illusion holding it together has finally been shattered. Everyone looks away uncomfortably, since they knew that it would come to this eventually.

I forgot to mention that there was a huge step forward in Ippo's relationship with Kumi: he touched her boobies.

Ippo's mum makes him walk her home after he comes home from a day of work on the fishing boats. As they're walking and discussing CTE, she strongly implies she wants to be with Ippo, and then she trips over a rock. Ippo quickly catches her as she falls, and inadvertently places his hand on her boob. He then quickly moves his hand to her shoulder because he senses Mashiba glaring at him. Ippo's talk with Takamura is around "going on an adventure and finding a treasure," implying that Ippo is finally ready to settle down with Kumi.

if they do another season of the tv show i wonder how they'll animate this :allears:

or maybe they just skip it altogether but I doubt it so maybe Madhouse looked at that and how the rest of the series is progressing and went like "nah gently caress it" and season 3 is the last we'll get :rip:

Which is a shame because Ippo's next fight would've arguably been the perfect fight to end after.

This right here is where the boxing stopped. He is swaying completely backwards and yet somehow throws a punch with forward momentum that lets him leap up and strike Ippo across the face. What do you even call that?

I SAID WE'RE NOT GONNA BE FUCKING SUCK THIS YEAR!!!

The biggest problem with most of the later fights is that they feel completely like wasted time. Why does Ippo need to defend his Japanese title double digit times? All of the other world stage fighters held onto theirs for 2 or 3 defenses then noped out. He wasted so much time having Ippo fight functionally worthless matches instead of actually progressing his story. Which is probably the most irritating thing about the current development, is that it could have still played out this way but been much more satisfying if he hadn't kept Ippo locked in stasis for years and years unlike just about everyone else in the manga.

I am sorry you cannot tell the difference between Sendo's Smash where the punch is thrown from the angle is body is tilted at and that panel where Woli is throwing a punch in a completely different direction from how his body his tilted, while also simultaneously leaping up from that position to move past Ippo.

Ironically enough I do enjoy the Wheel of Time. Sanderson did a great job mimicking early Jordan to finish it out, but that's an apt comparison.

Credit to Morikawa it appears he might finish it himself instead of dying and requiring someone else to even if the ending is worse for it.
