How ya doing? Yep, I'm one of those people.

It's the Iron Monkey syndrome for me: Both bands have great music, but I just can't handle the vocals. I like Iron Monkey's music more than Thou's, but regardless, the vocals are just not for me.

The one time I've seen Mastodon was in a dive bar a couple of months before Remission came out. I just knew it was ex-Today is The Day members so I went to check it out.

Remission is still my favorite Mastodon album by far.

Can’t imagine living my life not liking either of those bands, especially over the vocals

I wish the Thou guy would have just a little more variety to his vocals. It’s not that he’s bad at all, he just does the same exact thing all the time.

To stand out as samey as he does in a genre like doom really takes dedication.

That’s why it’s been a great dynamic change for them to include other vocalists in recent years. It works especially well on this album.

I'm here for you friend, we can be shamed together. I only really have this problem with Thou, at least so far. I generally like instrumental s/d/s the most, but the "scream" (for lack of a better term) is fine if the music making up for it. Thou's music doesn't pull me enough with the non-lyrics portion to make up for it, lots of other stuff does though. Not sure what it is about Thou, just can't get into them, but something like https://electricjezus.bandcamp.com/album/--3 I like a lot

I was also in the anti-Thou vocals crowd. But one day I was angry or something and it just clicked. I can’t listen to them all the time, but when I’m in the mood they are awesome.

Uniform is devastating live. Of all the refunded ticket emails I got this summer, Kraftwerk hurt the most and the Uniform/Body collab was second

I saw Uniform in a tiny venue with deafeningly loud wall-of-amps sound and the lead singer screamed so loud without a microphone you could hear it I don't know how the gently caress he did it.

Also, in regards to gig chat, one of the best breaks in my life was suddenly getting sent to San Francisco for work meetings on a couple day's notice, and the day I got there Electric Wizard were playing, and it absolutely slayed.

I've had absolute abysmal luck trying to see Uncle Acid, I've had tickets in hand for them 3 times and have still yet to see them (once I got incredibly sick the day of a gig, once I got sent out of town for work, this year their US tour was cancelled due to covid :()

I've been lucky to see a handful of good-to-great SDS bands at festivals though (Clutch, Baroness, Mastodon, Sleep, OM, Sunn O))), Sunn O))) + Boris together, High on Fire)

I've seen another video like this that I'm pretty sure was Pig Destroyer where the power goes out at an outdoor festival and you can still hear the vocalist screaming over the drums from way back in the crowd. Quite a set of lungs.

It is very very noticeable. I think they have some samples comparing it on their Instagram.

I still think the live version sounds the best but it is miles better than the original release.

Also I'd never heard of Thou OR BRR, so when I heard the crossover album and saw folks bitching about the vocals I immediately assumed Thou was the screaming dude and BRR the chill lady. I agreed. Thou sucked.

Going through Inconsolable now, and uhhh... whoops. Thou rocks.
