I think the problem with Westworld was the format of season 1. The show was structured around gradually finding out how the mystery box pieces fit together and what that revealed about the characters. But that means when you get to season 2 you have to either change the genre to "Terminator" and throw out the Westworld format and setting or find some convoluted way to keep everything mostly the same and build a new poorly-fit mystery box on top of the old one. It seems like they chose the latter, though I'm not sure because I stopped watching it a couple episodes into season 2.

Westworld: The labyrinth thing was part of some long convoluted scheme by Anthony Hopkins to start a robot uprising. Jeffrey Wright’s character was a robot programmed not to know he was a robot. All the parts with the two human guests were actually taking place in the past and the one in the white clothes eventually goes killcrazy and grows up to be Ed Harris in the black duds

Lmao yeah seriously. I did look him up and it seems like he was regarded okay by the Navajo before he died but even so. Zahn McClarnon will be playing the lead role in the show though so that's pretty cool.

Yeah that’s been going around for months. It’s not just dumb because who would believe that GRRM is writing but also that’s not how the publishing industry has ever worked to schedule a book to be released 2 full years out like that. At best it’s a pure placeholder date of no significance besides some internal or contractual bookkeeping thing. Maybe GRRM needs to give them back money when he blows by that date. But GRRM for all his bullshit has endlessly said that he does not know when he’ll be done, and that he will leave no clues or hints as to clueing into a date. If it’s done he’ll plainly say it, the publisher will get the word, and they’ll have it on a shelf within 5 months. Not freaking 2 years from now.

Is he? Because I'd be seriously down for him to pick his most rear end hosed theories and turn them into a novel. Or even just taking a single character like moon-boy, and writing his full story as imagined by Preston.

I mean an alternate history/retelling of ASOIAF with all Preston's madness worked in, and then turned into an RPG would, I think, be the most fitting cherry atop this poo poo sundae.

There is a fanfic out there somewhere that is quite long and finishes all the plot threads. It's written in a pretty fanfic-y wish fulfillment way, but it's close enough to count. It came out before the show ended though, so it doesn't have the galaxy brain reveals like "ice zombies not a threat after all" and "king bran".

Preston's chapter isn't bad. If I have to accept fan fiction for an ending I could at least accept it from the guy who spent the last ten years practically memorizing the various plot threads of the last few books.

Is there any sort of synopsis of how that person decided to end it? Like, if King Bran isn’t the ending for the throne than who is on the throne in the end? How did they end up ending the white walkers threat? Curious although nowhere even close to curious enough to actually read a hundred fan-fiction chapters.

I thought it was good, honestly I would gulp up an entire book written by preston if he can keep up this quality, it was so much better than what D&D pulled off for the equivalent bit in the show despite progressing the plot in the same direction, the amount of clever call backs and actually showing the dothraki to be a sophisticated people with their own politics, the prophecies being political and what the khals want to hear is in retrospect so obvious and yet also fresh.

I know this will sound dumb in relation to some stupid fanfic written by a nerd youtuber (who I adore) but this is really an example of how capital has this relationship with art that is destructive to creativity and to the civilization-wide act of culture creation, you see this a lot with copyright abuse particularly in music but also everywhere else, art should be part of the public domain the second it is published and the moment that other artists feel inspired by it and feel the inclination to create derivative works, the notion of fanfiction is really just capitalist gatekeeping, the new star wars movies are as much fanfiction as any Harry Potter incest porn tumblr post, why shouldn't preston be able to write his own ASOIAF novels? where's the harm in that?

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your overall point, but I can see that people need to live, and need to be able to profit from their own works or else they may not be able to create art and instead have to be "gainfully employed".

In a non-capitalist system, this would be less of an issue.

This is formatted really weirdly, but it gives a lot of the plot points if you skim it:

I noticed Preston's attitude around theories and predictions has changed a bit since he said he started trying to write his own book (not this TWoW project; he was apparently writing something original). While before he used to come up with wild theories just because they filled in holes that he perceived. That, or he would to make predictions about what would happen in ASOIAF based on other GRRM stories. He now kind of tries to wrap theories in things like theming or proper narrative, and even if he's wrong, it's way more interesting and engaging than his old videos where every single action happened because of a grand conspiracy from a handful of puppeteers.

It 100% is to a degree. The Long Night was an apocalyptic event, but there are people who construe the "post-apocalypse" theory as something like "There was an advanced society at least on the level of 20th century technology that got reset at some point."
