Saying something entirely subjective is better or worse than something else thats entirely subjective while citing metrics like number of instruments played is so contrived and absurd that I'm stunned you had the gall to accuse other people in this thread of being autists. The only thing that truly makes one person better than the other in any sense is their height and Prince was 5'2".

Price was definitely more talented than Bowie. You can like Bowie more and say he's "better" or what ever, but Prince was a flat out more talented musician than Bowie, that's not opinion. Bowie had A LOT of help writing his songs, usually he'd have the chord changes and lyrics then the producers and studio guys would punch it up for him. Niles Rogers talks about this in some Bowie doc. He said Bowie came in with a 12 string guitar and played Fame for him, but it was very slow and folky and Bowie wasn't sure what to do with it, so Niles sped it up and added all those cool delay effects and kickass riffs. Prince on the other hand, did loving everything himself and was a crazy perfectionist. No one added poo poo to a Prince song unless he told them to. The guy had the musical acumen of a Berkeley jazz professor and used it to make songs about loving.
