There's a dumb poo poo meme that's starting to be posted (by people who I suppose think they're doing the cause of refugees a favor) which shows the dead Syrian toddler lying in the surf, then another photo of people surrounding beached orcas and pushing them into the surf.

Now, this is evidently trying to make the point that we care about animals more than people. But it's dumb. It's dumb, dumb, dumb. Because it's both a poorly considered point, and it exploits the goddamn death of a child for shock value in making that point. It's horrific and it's wasted.

Someone just posted it in a Greens group on Facebook and is busily collecting likes. gently caress everyone.

Lebanon is a country of 4 million people, and they have taken in about 1 million Syrians. Of course, most of these refugees get their supplies from UN agencies and NGOs, financed by foreign aid, but then Lebanon isn't a rich country.
