Watch Dogs, the game from the Assassin's Creed devs that features hackers and explosions and a deep interesting narrative. It's actually really bad.

red faction guerilla is a bit less open and not hand to hand combat-y but it's open world enough that i feel like i should at least recommend it, especially if you like the idea of using a giant space hammer to destroy buildings as you lead a socialist revolution against the oppressive earth government presence on mars https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcUBI-YVRY8

I feel like my brain must be broken because I thought Red Faction: Guerilla was pretty dire. The building destruction physics were fun, sure, but nothing else was.

Been loving the gently caress out of PS Now on PC. I've been playing co-op Saints Row 3 with my buddy who has a PS3. The future is now! Anyway I felt it worth pointing out that all the Assassin's Creed games are on there, including Rogue. It's $20/month with a 7-day free trial. If you're like me and you've always been jealous of console exclusive games then PS Now is totally worth the money.

I got a lot of good responses in the Steam thread and the general consensus was that Prime and its sequels are unique games that no one has made copies of yet. I liked the world design and pacing of Metroid Prime. There were quiet areas of exploration and intense firefights, and you got new equipment at a steady pace. I liked scanning for lore, too. It was one of my favorite games back when it was released, it just did so much right at the time.

Fun Times! posted:I got a lot of good responses in the Steam thread and the general consensus was that Prime and its sequels are unique games that no one has made copies of yet. The closest I can think of when taking all of this is to account is the first System Shock. It's progression is very similar to that of a metroidvania, where you will be going to levels to get a code or an item and then returning to a previous area to solve a puzzle or something. You also get equipment and abilities at a similar rate to a metroidvania, too, although it is possible to find them earlier through secrets. It also dispenses lore through audiologs you'll find around Citadel Station. As for intense firefights, I can easily think of numerous situations in the game where I encountered a room full of enemies and had to hastily throw a grenade or scramble to get a fresh magazine into my gun while running for cover. Edit: Just saw Metroid: Dreadnaught in the Steam thread if you haven't seen it yet, so it's worth a shot if you want to get a copy of Doom 2 from steam or gog. If I wanted a racing/driving game with decent simulation of actual driving, say gran turismo 6-like, but more arcadey progression/upgrading (just slap pricier stuff in that makes you go faster and turn better rather than fiddling with a thousand values) and an interface that isn't a torture instrument, what should I check out? Possibly with a lot of cars and pieces to buy, not 10 cars with three upgrades each. PC or ps3, I have and enjoy a racing wheel with 3 pedals and a 6 gear shifter. I love gt6 but gently caress its career, its interface, and the miata bloat, I swear there's a thousand cars that are the exact same. Possibly not quite what you are looking for but a couple of NFS entries may be worth a go? Shift 2 is more "track", Most Wanted 2012 is a bit more arcadey and open world but has a fair few cars, upgrades are pretty bolt-on to go faster/accelerate better/brake harder. There's a fair amount of difference in the feel between cars. Shift is certainly more GT like though. There's regular sales on Steam for them.

I'm in the mood for a good tough puzzle game, the kind that can leave you stumped for hours at a time. I'm a huge fan of basically everything Zachtronics has put out (Spacechem, Infinifactory), and I also really enjoyed The Talos Principle and The Witness. I'm looking into Obduction as well, but I'm not sure my computer is actually capable of running it. I'd be especially keen to know if there are any great puzzlers that came out within the past several years that just kind of flew under everyone's radar. Any recommendations?

It's not the same sort of game, but the Hexcells trilogy really nails the satisfying progression curve of a good puzzler. There's always a step to make that doesn't involve guesswork, so if there were times I'd run into a dead end and had to get up to come back with fresh eyes. And ended up returning half an hour later because I kept thinking about it.

So I'm waiting for a sale on Arma 2 deal on Steam so I can try the DayZ mod version. Rust is $20 and goes on sale frequently. I got bitten by DayZ and quickly moved to Rust for my survival dick punching game. It's gorgeous (just got a recently graphical overhaul), sandbox in its basically purest form, and lets you achieve a real zen about managing your resources and surviving. The main predators are humans though. There are wolves and bears, and an attack helicopter event on the reg, but 90% of the time you die will be to other players, and there's 0 chill about it, if you see someone, either kill them or run.

Does anyone know of either A) a good naval-based RTS, the kind where the ships are more than glorified transports. Something like Naval War: Arctic Circle, just not as bad. Or B) A submarine Sim game in the vein of Silent Hunters. I like playing III, but I am in the mood for something different and the later installments apparently suck

Also Card Hunter (I think that's what they renamed it) which is a fake D&D campaign and strategy game with cards as the action resolution. It's f2p but doesn't feel gated by it.

DreamShipWrecked posted:Does anyone know of either Boy are you in luck. If you don't mind space navy, Battlefleet Gothic plays just like a standard naval game but with Warhammer. Command Modern Air/Naval Operations is the classic Harpoon style highly grognardy Air/Naval game from anywhere from (kinda) WW2 to modern day. Atlantic Fleet is an alright budget strategy game about the Battle of the Atlantic, and it plays alright. Definitely worth the low price. Steam and Iron is a fantastic WW1 naval strategy game, but Rule the Waves is a game where you actually manage the development of WW1 era navies and the technological focuses can change if you use that option. Both S&I and RtW have terrible MS Paint graphics though, but they are ridiculously good for naval strategy. For WW2 subsims, SH4 is actually really good. Playing in the Pacific Theatre is a nice change of pace and it just looks and plays much much better. There's also a multiplayer co-op submarine game called HMS Marulken which has a free demo, and everyone controls different bits of the sub. Cold War-era we have Sub Commander, which is kinda like FTL in that you have a crew and you're not the omniscient captain submarine god. Dangerous Waters is basically Silent Hunter but with modern subs. Kalenden posted:Is there a good singleplayer/campaign driven card game? Perhaps one of the Yu-Gi-Oh games? Anyone got a multiplayer game on Steam/PC with a ton of character customization? Preferably more action based than not, and I'd prefer picking specific abilities and stuff over picking a class. And huge dramatic differences between people based on those choices would be good. Sorry, I know this is vague. Also not Dark Souls. Already playing all of them.

It ain't action, but Divinity: Original Sin hits those other requirements. It's multiplayer on Steam with a lot of different skills and traits to pick from (the classes in it are just presets you can adjust) and characters with different skillsets play very differently.
