I have two of their retina laptops I use at work and I have non-retina external monitors hooked up to them and I look back and forth constantly and after literally 4 hours of use I couldn't tell the difference between the eye. Maybe I just have old eyes but it's kind of an incremental improvement over the light-and-day difference of SD vs. HD on televisions or when 2x retina first debuted on phones - you could really see the sharpness because of how close you hold the phone toy our eyes. Same for tablets, retina makes more sense there. Yeah now that I typed this post I'm sure it's just me getting older.

Mooktastical posted:Today, I had a guy call to ask why his iPhone wasn't ringing when he got calls. Turns out, the switch was flipped. Derp. The mute switch thing is so loving common. I used to work for AT&T from the original iPhone launch through the 3GS, then for Sprint from the time they got theirs through the 5S, and people would be in a couple of times a week. Same thing when they added the "do not disturb" function in iOS 7, people would come in complaining it didn't ring, and I'd see the little moon up top and have to explain it. And iOS 9 makes you enter your passcode every 48 hours, I guess other people were using Touch ID only so they added that in. Fun glitch - put in a bad passcode until it temporarily disables itself, then let the battery die or disconnect it. When it comes back, it'll be disabled for about 32 million minutes and force you to restore it. Really fun to explain that when people come in to get a device fixed and don't have the passcode, and disabled it trying to figure out what their kid set it to. My favorite 2 issues though - people would buy a new iPhone then bring it back complaining the ear speaker didn't work. Invariably, they left the plastic film on the front, which does a remarkably good job of blocking the sound since you're supposed to peel it off before you use the phone. The other one was people coming in saying one of the speakers on the bottom of the phone didn't work. At which point I have to explain that one of them is the microphone. People seemed disappointed that they didn't have stereo speakers on their phone, but how would you even notice when the speakers are like an inch apart?

Those who don't accept Apple just want a reason to be different than the majority and are willing to get a piece of poo poo that will never see an update and will be 100% unsupported in a year. But keep buying crap and keeping giving google all your personal data because they are truly a company that loves nerds and respects you. Apple makes technology accessible to the mouth breathing masses. It's just like standard vs automatic. The more control you have, the better it's going to function. Having to rely on Apple's app for everything is poo poo. I am not just saying this to be different; Apple things are legitimately less robust, yet cost more. Also, the Z1 came out in 2013 and got updated this year. Sorry if you are so indoctrinated to a tech firm that you need to cling to such outdated nonsense. Plus, the fact that Apple continues updates for longer than Android typically does is somewhat nullified by the techno-materialistic fetishism of idiots like you, not to mention that the retarded typical iTard wouldn't update even if they got paid to do so. Btw, still waiting for you to back up how you're on a subsidy in TYOOL 2015. Please tell me you're on Sprint, lol.

It's funny that the reasons for loving and hating Apple are equally bad. They break down to: I like Apple because I don't want to janitor my poo poo vs, it frustrates me that it's hard to janitor my poo poo on Apple devices. Just buy the thing that frustrates you less. It doesn't have to be this big normative judgement.

Locker Room Zubaz posted:Seriously guys just accept that apple is really loving good at making products that work well and are easy to use. this is true but the caveat is they are for people who aren't all 'technical' or whatever and want poo poo to just work with little to no fiddling out of the box. Great for a lot of the population (moms, middle aged people, etc.). They also charge a huge premium for that. There's the other people that enjoy fiddling and dicking around with things Apple won't let them do on their closed environment stuff or they don't care for the high price for various reasons and so Apple products are not necessarily the best choice for those people. For example, my friend's HDD on his Macbook just died. Since he is not a techie and has little to no computer knowledge, it's worth it to him to just pay the premium and have Apple fix it (or buy a new laptop - he said his was 'bricked' after the HDD died). Then there's people like me who think nothing of popping open the bottom and swapping the drives out. It doesn't have to be one or the other for the entire population quote:But keep buying crap and keeping giving google all your personal data because they are truly a company that loves nerds and respects you. lol if you don't think Apple is jacking your personal data too though

If Apple didn't still hold to retarded poo poo like apps not being able to talk to each other, I'd probably be posting on an iPhone right now. Yeah, this is a true and cool point when we get into these weird platform wars. But I think most users of any product are equally inept. It's not like every Android user is some power-using sperglord. Nearly all of the people I've met with an android phone count "cheap" as their most important feature. And some Apple users are pretty spergy about their workflows and productivity software on their tiny phones (yeah, that's me). If anything, it's weird that poweruser status boils down to micromanaging icons and file systems these days. Really, we should get together and lament our mutual miscategorizations as grannies or anime hoarding nerds based on the logos in our pockets.

I had the first iPhone and the next couple after that and they were good but I tell you what: the new update comes out your phone will work like utter poo poo because the new O/S is 'designed with the new iPhone in mind' (and they'd roll the OS out months beforehand sometimes) and it's just like.... you know they do that on purpose, the assholes. Although I just got the lollipop update on my Android and basically same thing; fancier graphics that present less information (on the lock screen n drag down thing) and also my phone lags and runs a little slower now. Just get what you like and stop caring about other people's opinions
