This man threw his dream out there for the whole world to see. Then through the twisted machinations of this hateful little thing called the internet it found it's way to a community of fat bitter shut-ins. Who then decided, with much stomping of their hooves and labored snorting from their fleshy snouts, that Claude Wayne Robinson must have his dream. He's probably prayed for a miracle at some point, and he wound up with us.

Really makes you think, don't it?

A collection of misanthropes, basement atheists, neckbeards, broken shut-ins, the great, the small and the painfully average have thrown in to answer his prayer of a hotdog stand in the middle of nowhere.

We are the answer to his prayer. Us. On a whim. Initially for laughs, partially for good feelings, primarily now just from momentum.

Edit: Despite what you guys are saying about the origin of frogout or whatever, I don't think its origins are a huge deal. I think someone should tell him, but it stopped being associated with porn about five minutes out of the gate. It's a thing which looked cool as gently caress and was found to be amazing because it was absurd.

I also hope that this culminates with buying him an account so we can fawn over him a bit. I love those threads where that happens.

I think it's went well once or twice. But overall, yeah. It doesn't tend to. Someone always wants to threadshit and be edgy by being a dick. Sometimes several someones.

Still, I'd love to see it happen nonetheless.

No, never let him know what kind of horrible deviants let him achieve his goal. This will end poorly.

I see he is at nearly $5000 and could exceed his target - thank you, goons. I wish I could have funded him entirely myself, but not only have a few Deep Pockets stepped up, Team Frogout is doing very well too. Let's have this man have his dreams realized.

Tossed in $25 because we should all believe in the honest American dream.

Also seconding that we should NOT get him an account here since we are all rotten, misanthropic bastards

Yeah he probably shouldn't know that we spent the first three weeks making fun of him. Until we realized he's actually a cool guy.

EDIT: There really should be a Doobie's Doggers gang tag from this though...

I'll take your word for it since I don't read awful kickstarters.

Still, his sincerity won a bunch of misanthropes over. That's an accomplishment in and of itself.

Trollologist posted:

So, he needs $6k to get it all going but his wife gave $60. And can you factor in taxes (like maybe 15% or so...) between kickstarter and whatnot there's another 10% gone.

SO! for the frogdog to become a reality we gotta shoot for: Around $7600.

I'm in for :10bux: after I run to the bank tomorrow.

That brings up a good question: Does Claude know about stretch goals?

We might throw him some practical ideas. Obviously, footlongs would be the most appropriate stretch goal in the history of kickstarter. But maybe he needs a better grill or a fryer or something practical that would help him build and keep a local customer base.

Just put in $12 to help someone who seems to be a very nice chap. If he does make over his target, then stretch goals might not be the best plan. Better for something like this to have a rainy day fund in case any of the new kit he's buying needs replacing or unexpected maintenance.

In for $25. I grew up in a small, rural town (not this small or this rural, but still) and have to reiterate the previous comments on what a big deal a new business can be in a small community.

If for nothing other than lack of options, this could be a successful business.

I wonder if he has considered dessert? A soft serve machine could be a pretty big hit if you have to drive somewhere else for ice cream.

They are complimentary, but not directly compatible.

That's going to change soon though; I will be launching a kickstarter next month for overpriced CNC machined artisanal adaptor plates, built into an iPhone case.

If it was 4chan, sure. Goons generally have a pretty good track record for this kind of thing. Even so, it'd be nice if it got comfortably over the goal, there are always a few flakes or people who pull out at the last minute due to unforseen circumstances.

Only in the last 24 hours. Before that anyone can withdraw their pledge.

Every now and then someone will pledge but their account won't have enough money in it when the project reaches its deadline so the project creators don't get the entire amount that was pledged, but that seems to be fairly rare.
