Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They're just an interpretation, they're not a record, and they're irrelevant if you have the facts.
Directed by: Martin Cambpell
Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Robbie Coltrane

The first Bond film in nearly a decade, Goldeneye, helmed by the NZ born director Martin Campbell, is still, nearly ten years later, an excellent flick.

The film opens in the past, with 007 and 006 meeting in a secluded Chemical weapons facility in Soviet Russia. Their mission is simple - destroy the weapons and get out. However, it isn't quite that simple, and 006 is shot dead by the wily Colonel Ouromov.

The movie features great scenery, introductions of old characters in Desmond Llewyn and Samantha Bond, and new appearences by Judi Dench and John Cleese. This movie is still the best out of the Brosnan bond films.

All my feelings in a single phrase.

I consider it the closest you'll get to a blend between the "Brosnan" Bond and the "Connery" Bond.

hello
This was a nice return to energy and humor of the older films. It's too bad the franchise hasn't been able to repeat that success again.

kind of into it, really

The opening sequence didn't let you down at all, and the movie was all-in-all a very good example of a bond film, including the sexily-named female sidekick who was evil in this one.

Only disappointment was that the bond car wasn't even used in the movie. Or destroyed, as tradition states.

Metroid sighting huh? Well, I did just pour this coffee...it will still be there tomorrow.
Easily the best Brosnan Bond film, and probably my favorite Bond film as well.

The game might be bearing on my opinion, though.

I agree with mangler. I watched this movie once, got the game, played the game for a couple years, and then watched the movie again, and I couldn't get over how close the game was to the movie. Great game, great movie.

I'm fucking Lady Jaye.
I actually got this movie on VHS along with the "Virtual James Bond Encyclopedia" for about twenty bucks. One of the biggest bargains ever.

Easily the best out of the Pierce Brosnan Bonds, and definitely in the top five Bonds ever, right up there with "Thunderball" "Goldfinger" "Octopussy" "Licence to Kill" and "You Only Live Twice."

I'm bizarre
I think the next one (Tommorrow never dies) was slightly better, but this was still a good movie.

Izzy wizzy, let's get Byzzy!
It was not a bad film in itself, however it just doesn't compare to my favourite bond - A View to a Kill (I don't know why I like it but I just do)

However, that should not detract from the film itself which is certainly more enjoyable than any of the more recent Bond movies.

It also has Sean Bean on fine form, and an interesting plot.

All in all a good action movie.

It was the best of the recent (Brosnan) bond films, however, the recent bond films have kinda sucked.

My favorite Bond film of all time, trailed by Thunderball and Goldfinger, Goldeneye is a surprisingly well-written story that effectively analyzes what difficulties Cold War agents undergo after their Cold War is over and the old wounds left behind.

The action is incredibly well-choreographed, ranging from Bond's glitzy and exciting shootout escape from his Russian cell to the raw and gritty hand-to-hand combat between him and Trevelyn in the satellite cradle. While Brosnan plays an excellent Bond, it's the supporting characters that steal so much of screen: Alan Cumming, Sean Bean, Robbie Coltrane and Famke Janssen are all at the top of their game and lend the movie the perfect balance of humor, sex appeal and action.

Girls, guns, gadgets and action; they're all here. It puts all the other Brosnan Bond films to shame.

We've Got To Go Back
If you like Bond you will find this a decent movie and better than most of the current Bond movies. Still it fails to capture the feel of earlier Bond movies. Worth watching if you are a true Bond fan or if you see it on HBO one night. I do agree that Sean Bean is great in this movie.

3/5 (I gave it a extra .5 because the movie inspired the greatest console FPS and the greatest video game based on a movie.)

A great action movie, definatly responsible for saving the tired Bond series after Dalton. The characters are fun, the scenery is spectacular, and the plot is thrilling. The only problem I have is with the score. Eric Serra? What were they thinking?

This movie shows what a good Bond Brosnan can be if he has a good script to work with. Excellent movie that keeps the spirit of the early Bond movies.

I'M TOO FUCKING STUPID TO DO A SIMPLE SEARCH OF THE FORUMS.
This movie, even after seeing all the others, made me believe Pierce Brosnan is James Bond. Best Bond movie of the series, in my opinion.

I know this for I am Antonio Handsome.
This is one of my favorite Bond movies, and actually the first one I saw. Pierce Brosnan does great, the opening scenes are cool, we all love Boris(Alan Cummings - or is it Cumming?).

I think I'll give it a 4 because it gets a little old over time, though.

Goldeneye (1995)

(minor spoliers are tagged)

Bond: Pierce Brosnan
The Evil Mastermind: Gottfried John and this guy -> Boromir
The Henchperson: Famke "Xmen" Janssen
The Bond Girl: Izabella Scorupco
Director: Martin Campbell

IMBD: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113189/
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUNP9xrOBd4

Movie summed up in a single quote -> "We Have Met the Enemy and He Is Us" - Walt Kelly

Someday in the distant future, a cryogenics lab technician will awaken Martin Campbell from his slumber with the words "They've screwed up Bond again, can you help us out?" But that is the distant future, and the year in question is 1995. After years of legal entanglements, and box office failure after failure, it was decided it was time to restart Bond once again. Pierce Brosnan was filnally able to take over the role, after having it and losing it in The Living Daylights, a new Bond was born that had more in common with Moore than any other previous actor. Many of the elements that had been present in the Moore era were brought back from grave, including the one liners, outrageous villians, and self assurance that gave Bond a quality that crystallized Brosnan as the perfect spy - never shaken or stirred, always on top of his game.

Not to be confused with this guy ->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vESIVemfG8

If Dalton's Bond was about trying to bring the character closer to reality, the screenplay here moves back to the world of fantasy. It's a version of our world with deadly satellites obiting above the earth but the dishes that control them needing to be larger than a football field. An alternate dimension where computer programmers can suddenly become elite trained commandos. In short, it's Bond as we know him before the Dalton era, and frankly, it's the type of movie that's fun to watch if you don't think about it too much.

Without a doubt, The best Q line ever.

There is a lot to enjoy in this movie. There is a fantastic tank chase that results in almost more damage then the average Godzilla movie, and comes down to one of the best chase scenes ever in a Bond film, although marred by some over the top sight gags -one could almost expect a pigeon doing a double take as Bond barrels past in a T-80BV with a statue on top of it. Then the opening scene including the bungie jump almost makes it worth the price of admission by itself. Furthermore, the overall plot has a compelling concept - a main villain who is a true match for Bond in every manner. Usually the classic main Bond villian is too marshmallowy to handle themselves in a fight, but here is one of the most physical villians since Red Grant in "From Russia with Love".

There's some illogical stuff here, as well. The enemy has intimate knowledge of Q branch, and even comments on a particular gadget of Bond's. Yet for some reason, the antagonist lets one of his henchman play around with it in front of him, pushing all manner of buttons until something bad happens. The criminal fraternity does not seem to attract the brightest sort, but then, if they were, they wouldn't criminals, it seems. Then there is the idea of Alec's ancestory which makes for an interesting plot point, but would place Bond's employers in the league of being not the brightest gems among the crown jewels. And for a man like Ourumov to not know about Alec just makes no sense at all.

It says "You just made a post on the internet! We all pray it didn't suck!"

Speaking of Alec's background, that is about as much character development as you get in this film. Bond movies don't tend to go very deep in this area, but after "Licence to Kill", it's quite of change of pace. The other characters are generally disposible, with the exception of Valentin, who has an interesting relationship with Bond that makes him stand out, and Judi Dench as M, who frankly is twice the M that her predecessor was, getting some of the best lines in the movie.

When you tie it all together, you get a Bond flick that stands out as the best that Brosnan will have to offer. This movie represents some of the best qualities of a Bond film, but stays very close to formula in order to cling to what was working in movies like "The Spy who loved Me" and other Moore favorites, without falling into the trap of self parody. Campbell has way of shooting his movies in a way that you can clearly see the money spent on the screen, with lush cinematography, and vivid scenery that make the most of what the script has to offer. Whatever you may think about Brosnan, if you like Bond, you should find this movie entertaining.

Interesting Trivia: M's real name is revealed in the script as Barbara Mawdsley, which clarifies what Bond was about to say in "Casino Royale".

The Good: It's a good script with fun action sequences that don't make you .
The Bad: Onatopp is almost Overthetop.
The Ugly: It's Boris, the poster child for nerds everywhere!

FINAL SCORE

As a Bond Flick:

As a movie in general:

I originally played the video game back in the day so it was an interesting experience to see how close the two compared. Much like the game, the movie is amazing as far as Bond flicks go. You could really feel the monolithic elements of the cold war Russia in its transition to the modern era. To expand on that, this movie feels like the major turning point in the theme of the series, for better or worse.
