Directed by: Gordon Chan Starring: Jackie Chan, Lee Evans, Claire Forlani Jackie Chan is Eddie Yang, a Hong Kong cop hot on the trail of the dastardly but oddly monikered Snakehead (Julian Sands). Teaming up with a bumbling Interpol agent (Lee Evans), and ex-girlfriend Nicole (Claire Forlani), the trio soon track Snakehead all the way to England, discovering that he has kidnapped a child who holds the titular object, one that will grant it’s wearer immortality and ULTIMATE POWER. Jackie tries something a little different with The Medallion, creating a fairly harmless fantasy in similar vein to Big Trouble in Little China or The Golden Child while also trying to take the focus away from the physical stunts we all love him for. This means lots of CG and flying around on wires which, sorry Jackie, doesn’t feel right coming from you. The fight scenes (choreographed by Sammo Hung) were also fairly unremarkable and the film, while watchable, felt at times that it needed those 30 minutes of deleted scenes on the DVD put right back in. But even so, and with quite low expectations coming in I found The Medallion to be a somewhat enjoyable movie. I credit this to the actors, Evans in particular, who seem to be having alot of fun with the gig and also have great chemistry working with Jackie. And Claire Forlani, (as usual) also looks absolutely gorgeous, though her fight scenes are pretty lacklustre. But at least she speaks with her English accent! Anyway, The Medallion is a somewhat enjoyable flick with good intentions that didn't quite work out as well as they hoped. Catch it on TV if you've got nothing better to do. 2.5/5 PROS: Fun performances, Claire Forlani is hot. CONS: Jackie on wires doesn’t look right, a lot of the movie is in the deleted scenes.
