Directed by: Michael Mann Starring: Jürgen Prochnow, Gabriel Byrne, Ian McKellen A garrison of Nazis, led by Jurgen Prochnow (Das Boot, Dune), is sent to take over and guard a strategically placed castle keep in the Romanian countryside. Upon entering the keep they are confronted by the caretaker who warns them of the danger of staying there! What follows is pretty painful to watch for the most part, aside from some fairly nice special effects for the time, especially the giant demonic prisoner of the keep. The script is terrible and the story is badly and barely developed before the anti-climactic ending which sees Scott Glenn playing the part of a plank of wood with glowing eyes! Oh and the synth soundtrack by Tangerine Dream really does not suit a tense WW2/gothic themed horror movie! RATING: 1.5 PROS: Nazis and some nice SFX CONS: Terrible use of source material ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085780/
