Directed by: Robert Englund
Starring: Robert Picardo, Stephen Geoffreys, Patrick O'Bryan, Sandy Dennis

in this shocking spinoff from the nightmare on elm street series Freddy Krueger has escaped from the realm of nightmares and entered the real world to inflict suffering on horror audiences around the globe with his directorial debut.

two cousins who are actually named Hoax and Spike are drawn into a world of demonic intrigue when they discover a hotline to hell which reads the damned their sinful "horrorscopes"--976-EVIL (warning do not call this number)
soon nobody in whatever city they live in is safe from the licking flames of death and hellfire conjured by meddling in these evil black magics from beyond the grave--not Hoax's devout christian mother, not even Spike's tough (gay) street tough associates, not anybody. the number almost convinces Spike to shoplift a pair of gloves, for example.

it's about an hour before the sinister hotline enters the plot in any significant way at all and after that demonic things happen sporadically until the grand finale which showcases most of the FX budget in about five minutes. the bulk of the movie is scenes of 80s teens talking and walking around and playing cards and going on dates--sort of like what might happen in the nightmare on elm street universe the weeks when Freddy's not around. just keep reminding yourself that you rented this from the horror section.

as with other films he was featured in, half the fun is checking out the later developments in Stephen "Evil Ed" Geoffreys' career: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0313267/

HAHAHAHAHAH!!! I could never actually think of any crap actor that made such a transition. THEY DO EXIST!

The one thing that truly stuck with me from this movie was this scene where some shitheads are playing poker and the main character, all evil now, rips the hearts out of some people and says something like "may I join the game with two hearts. muahahah!" Sooooooo goooooooood. How did he ever end up the way he did :sigh:

1.0 for the poker scene and gay sex
