Directed by: Sergei Eisenstein Starring: a lot of Russians who are dead now I am of two minds about Potemkin. It's not all that entertaining for a modern audience. The famous "Odessa steps" sequence is 4-5 times longer than it needs to be, and the same could be said about several other scenes. And it's difficult to ignore the blatant propaganda of the whole thing. On the other hand... it is certainly influential, especially in its use of fades, edits, and montage. As a piece of film history, it's invaluable and fascinating. And some scenes are quite lyrical and beautiful. RATING: 3 PROS: hugely influential CONS: a bit on the tedious side ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0015648/
