Zeo posted:Got an 08JK a few months back. In general what are the rules about leaving the top down in the rain? i was tired of not being able to leave the doors off because of constant threat of rain (also the 2 flights of stairs they have to go up and down everytime), so i got one of these for my tj: http://www.jeepcovers.com/. the jk covers should be coming out really soon. the cover's loving awesome, takes like 30 seconds to throw on, and it's completely waterproof. after countless thunderstorms and huge downpours not a single drop has gotten inside. been topless and doorless just because of this for about a month now. as for getting rained on, there's been a couple times where it's rained overnight and i forgot to throw the cover on, and it was nothing a couple hours in the sun didn't solve.

went out in the jeep yesterday! it was so nice out, plus since i've moved to colorado springs i've been seriously craving to drive up cheyenne mountain like every day. the view from the top looking down at the road ahead there's the jeep! it looks so small from up there picked up an awesome cliffside trail for a bit cutting through a really cool-looking pass crusing through the woods climbing up to the top gorgeous views everywhere the jeep in its natural habitat ] picked up a pretty serious trail lots of rocks and tight turns, it was great it was pretty much the entire length of the backside of the mountain, took us like 3 hours haha the view of the springs on the way back down was the best of the day had a great time, even met up with a couple more jeeps while we were out there and ended with a group 4 deep, it was a great day. no major problems for our group, but a bright orange jk came up the trail we were on and had the rear left caliper completely fall off, both bolts sheared and the brake line popped off. no idea how they managed that.

I don't have the ticking mentioned earlier but it's only got about 3500 miles on it so far, maybe it will show up in time. you know, one of the biggest reasons i got my TJ over the then-new JKs was that everyone said the engine was weak and very underpowered. now that they're putting pentastars in, i'm seriously considering switching to the dark side. i really love my TJ, with the sole exception of the 12-15mpg it gets, but i'm liking the new rubicons more and more.

I was commuting 100+ miles a day for work and I've since stopped that so the miles should slow down here now thank goodness. Only good thing to come from so many miles is the 33's I put on 9k miles ago are getting pretty worn and I'm ready to step up to 35's as soon as they are done. haha yeah i'm actually pretty surprised at how fast i've been putting miles on it. i'm also planning on 35s, with a 3-4" lift. i always wanted them for my TJ, and they look so good on the JKs with just a little lift. it almost makes me feel bad, though, since the stock 32s the rubi came with are great tires too. oh and i'm planning on 5.13 gearing or thereabouts, i just don't think 4.11 is gonna cut it with 35s here in the Rockies.

yeah, the more radical changes are very unlikely, especially considering wranglers are being sold faster than they can be made right now. i doubt chrysler will allow significant changes to risk alienating the consumer base. that being said, when in the gently caress will they bring home a domestic version of the diesel wrangler that's been selling in Europe for years now? haven't we waited long enough?

The two main selling points of the wrangler are "4wd" and "convertible". wrong, there's only one main selling point and that's the fact that it's named "wrangler." seriously, the vast majority of them are bought off the name alone and never leave the pavement. the payout is that jeep still leaves enough room to work with for the enthusiasts to make a capable offroader while keeping up the "wrangler" image that sells cars.

I was starting to think they were allergic to money or something. i'm pretty sure the only reason we haven't seen it already (along with the diesel option) was because the toledo plant had been at max production of wranglers for years and years. and since every wrangler sells, they physically didn't have any room in the line for other variants besides JK and JKU. now that they're doubling the size of the production line, they can finally start looking at these wrangler concepts we've all been drooling over for decades. FreelanceSocialist posted:See, the problem with that is I would rather own a fully-loaded TRD Taco for $8k less... i want one real bad but this is the big problem i see with it. price it too much past a JKU and all of a sudden you're in mid-size truck territory, which is already so loving expensive you might as well spend the extra 5k for a full-size.

Any guidance on resetting the sensors monitor? my TPMS has never quite cooperated since i changed out the stock tires no matter what i've done. aired up to the factory pressure, aired down to the lower limit, used a programmer to change the threshold, nothing. i'm tempted to just disable them at this point.

after a lot of frustrating research i ordered these. apparently the old version of these weren't DOT approved and had some issues but they've been fixed with the update. also i like the look of them. also they have a 25% coupon on top of the $50 discount going right now, which put them below the price of trucklights.

I'm figuring on regearing to 4.88(?) and lifting 3.5" Any thread preferences between Rock Krawler and Metal cloak? i went with the rock krawler 3.5 x factor to go with my 35s cause i found a crazy discount on it. no regrets here, although both of those options are going to be good considering the cost (and well outside the 'budget' category). going from the stock control arms to the adjustable uppers and lowers was eye-opening. the stock pieces look hilarious anemic in comparison. as a suggestion, though- unless you plan on actually crawling and needing that extra articulation, go with a 2.5 or a 3". it'll save you a lot of cash and the JK will still fit 35s no problem, doubly so if you trim or replace your fenders. at 3.5" i could easily fit a 37 or 38.

IOwnCalculus posted:Yeah I'm undecided on how or even if I will address this anytime soon. The simplest method might be a track bar mount that eliminates the factory horn altogether, and replaces it with a bracket to hold a bushing in double shear, along with an appropriate track bar. ideally your steering link and drag link should be as near to parallel as possible. that ironman looks like it could tough to align the suspension geometry, but it depends on your individual setup. this is what you should be aiming for, since it will allow for unrestricted suspension travel and greatly reduce the wear on the joints. it'll drive a hell of a lot better on-road, too. this applies to the rear suspension too; don't forget about that.
