It's not really a good recommendation (i.e., not quite applicable to what you've said, though there's a family resemblance), but the first Firewater album might be up your alley. It's a fantastic record.

I have a cd by I think Matt Darieu or Darius and the Paradox Trio that's basically new acoustic music that cribs from klezmer instead of bluegrass. Not too bad if you like that stuff.

Any recommendations for lady singers belting please? My tastes are pretty broad, but I'm partial to jazz standards, 40s 50s 60s stars, american songbook even. Here Comes Charley Musselwhite's South Side Band and Tennessee Woman (Charlie Musselwhite) West Side Soul (Magic Sam) Chicago/The Blues/Today! Vols. 1-3 (Various) - which should be in anyone's album collection. Those are all electric Chicago blues albums. They're just some that occur to me off the top of my head (I listen to more of what you would probably call R&B than straight blues) but they're all very good.

Yesterday I saw Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats and they were fantastic. However, I kind of liked the opening band a little bit more, but it turns out that they're a local band from Detroit and they made me long for some music that I don't even know exists. Are there any bands out there that have the whimsical/sultry sound of Sunset Rubdown or Wolf Parade that include heavy steel guitar? And if not, are there any bands out there that aren't country or honky-tonk music with heavy steel guitar, that has vocals?

Any suggestions for instrumental*, beautiful, ethereal-sounding electronic albums? Subgenre is irrelevant, just as long as it's electronic music fundamentally. *Spoken word passages + samples are fine, just don't want any singing/rapping/etc.

I'm looking for concept/storytelling albums in the vein of Hadestown by Anaïs Mitchell and The hazards Of Love by The Decemberists. It doesn't have to be folksy or even indie, but no awkward prog metal please. Good prog metal is fine, it's just that there's so much loving awkward prog metal that tries to tell a story. Mix of male and female vocals is ideal. Oliver Reed posted:Any suggestions for instrumental*, beautiful, ethereal-sounding electronic albums? Subgenre is irrelevant, just as long as it's electronic music fundamentally. Check out Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm. They might be a bit too orchestral/classical for what your're asking, but they've all got some stuff that's predominantly electronic and it's totes amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udwq9fWKwmY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2wCh3RKd40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZJobS0Wh40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkBpR4g9LqY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVLp_igUBBc This one is not at all electronic, but eh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yFLa40DyUE And if you fell for the orchestral elements of their music, check out Jóhann Jóhannson. And In The Endless Pause There Came The Sound Of Bees and IBM 1401 is mostly orchestral, but they're ethereal and beautiful like nothing else.

Well, Fennesz and William Basinski are the two big names often mentioned in the same breath as Tim Hecker, but I'm not familiar enough with their work to give any specific album recommendations. Perhaps someone else in the thread could chime in there. Also, Tim Hecker has quite a large body of work, so he should keep you busy for quite a long while. I'd also like to recommend Oneohtrix Point Never (Daniel Lopatin). Although much of his work is more structured and beat-oriented, it shares many qualities with Tim Hecker's (they've even collaborated on some projects). I was planning on recommending something to start with, but then I read the post linked at the top of o.m.'s excellent thread. Krangdar does a great job of summarizing, so pick what appeals to you and give it a listen. And if you decide you want to jump down the greater rabbit hole of experimental electronic music, that whole thread is probably the most densely packed with information on a specific genre as I've seen on this subforum.

I'm looking for songs in the lesbian synthpop/indie rock genre but most of them are slower jams and I'm looking for something energetic. These are some examples of what I mean: Metric https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6F_Y0qNjfhI Ladyhawke https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAdqMiCrwXc Tegan and Sara https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sxhyyUsXFM I picked these songs especially because they're outliers in their band's discographies, most of their other songs are pretty low-key which is fine but doesn't make me want to run fast. I'm not expecting an artist or even a whole album to work for me but individual songs would be awesome because I can listen to the same song a billion times if I like it due to the fact that I probably have a brain disorder.

The synth is key my man, if JD Samson has been in the band at any point in time that's probably also a good sign. Queercore is also definitely a genre I like and listen to but it tends to be more thrashy and riot-grrly and I need a crisp sound. Low-fi? Thumbs down. That Team Dresch song owned though would vastly be improved with a Casio keyboard.
