I recently relistened Thursday, and old favorite of mine. Looked for a bit more similar music and found Orchid and Touche Amore. Any more similar? Short, heavy and not too melodic is what I'd say

there's a lot similar. your genre touchstones here are basically emoviolence and powerviolence.

emoviolence was coined as a joke by in/humanity but remains the main descriptor for bands that walked the line between pv and late/early 90s/00s hardcore and emo. see: orchid, palatka, end of the century party, assholeparade, reversal of man, in/humanity and jenny piccolo. there are a lot more and generally you'll see a lot of things lumped into emoviolence because nobody can agree on what anything sounds like. cruise last.fm tags or something and you'll see how much things overlap. i personally exclude a lot of things from emoviolence and consider it a very small scene centered in florida but MANY DISAGREE. this is where things will be similar to the specific bands you mentioned. listen to ampere also someone already posted that. will killingsworth from orchid plays guitar in that.

powerviolence is easier. its what you added crying to or w/e to make emoviolence (j o k i n g). it's what fits 'short, heavy and not melodic'. it's punishing and rude and isn't here to waste time. see: crossed out, dropdead, spazz, charles bronson, hellnation, capitalist casualties, bucket full of teeth (another will killingsworth band), infest, extortion, man is the bastard, the endless blockade, weekend nachos and probably a lot of other things i cant remember right now. its easy to find more pv bands. please do it.

It's been asked a couple of times over the years in this thread, but none of the recommendations that I saw are really doing it for me - I'm searching for stuff very similar to Death From Above 1979 - stuff that's driven by distorted bass (or is just bass/drums) and sort of danceable. The closest stuff that comes to mind is some Head Automatica stuff and if you squint just a bit, Royal Blood.

double dagger is what dfa1979 wished they sounded like

So Pandora isn't helping a whole so maybe someone here can. I am looking for bands/albums that will scratch the same itch that I get from:

Slint - Spiderland (especially "Washer")

Rodan - Rusty (especially "The Everyday World of Bodies")

Hoover - Lurid Traversal of Rt 7 (especially "Route 7")

Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime (especially "Do You Compute?" and "Sinews")

I guess basically bands similar these bands (or songs) that have a quiet/rhythmic buildup to a loud, noisy, cathartic finish.

What are some good post-hardcore/emo bands? So far I've really been digging Indian Summer and Funeral Diner, but I don't know much about the genre.

the lines between post-hardcore/screamo/emo are all very thin and easily crossed. here are some good songs. i could do this all day with bands that were prolific and bands that put out a 7" and disappeared. if you want more just ask i guess.

i also made some posts a little while back for someone looking for similar things. look for my (extremely good as always) posts on the last page because they're all applicable to you as well.
