No complies and variations look awesome, and also easier than they really are.

More power to him for pulling it off, but even the interviewer seems a little incredulous. At the very least, saying "I think wax is an abomination, and the idea of using it as a lubricant for skateboarding is abhorrent. In a perfect world, we'd have violent penalties for that sort of thing," is silly when a ton of his tricks require spots that have been skated/waxed down smooth previously.

Then it was even lost on the interviewer because he took this image from the quote:

It was 17 years after Tony Hawk's first 900 yesterday. His age is starting to show, but he took some of those falls like a champ and filmed what could be his final 900 at 48.

I'm not sure about retired people announcing it, but the first open, active baseball player was 2015, football 2014, and soccer's second was in 2013 (with an impressive first in 1990). People are still afraid of losing the positions they got themselves into, and in cases like Anderson he chose the sport first over his sexuality. That's a sad compromise that hopefully fewer people will have to make the more accepted it becomes.

The trailer has me wanting to spend $20 on a DVD, which is rare. Anyone seen it? I remember a few friends convincing me to throw in a dollar or two to watch cherry by Supreme, and it was just a mess to watch due to too much editing.

Chad Caruso spent 50 days going to a different state each day and learning a new trick. Just finished in Hawaii, and actually pulled off the challenge with no hitches. Not the gnarliest skating ever, but he is good on a mini ramp and seems like a cool, genuine dude.

I am building an electric skateboard from scratch, and it has turned into a pretty large project. I can post more about parts, cost, etc. if people are interested. I'm certainly no expert, however, and have just been piecing info together from other people online. I'm waiting on a few parts and still need to decide on a couple final things, but once everything starts getting put together I will be able to speak on them more confidently.

Not skating, but I'd rather post a cool clip of it rather than a depressing picture. Rumors going around that El Toro is getting demolished or altered. They are going to have to make it literally unskateable or else it will just be a new, probably more dangerous challenge.

Dylan Stark rips on any type of bike, and is a pretty rad dude in general.

Him tail whipping basically a longer El Toro.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7jNF1Gj1R0
Him doing street and vert tricks usually only seen in BMX on a mountain bike.

Him doing (and failing at) an even gnarlier drop than that El Toro clip.

I'd also argue that BMX tricks down massive sets are more dangerous since it's harder to bail with a bike, but they are all really dangerous and scary so who cares.

Pretty sure the board does a 540. That was his final attempt, first time trying that trick. He got robbed in my opinion, but the guy who won did really well too and is a hard flip god.

That one was insane too. I hadn't watched a skate comp in years but pretty much all the events were fun to see. Men's street is advancing so quickly beyond everything else, but on the other hand it is neat to see a 12 year old Japanese girl place 1st on vert ramps 5 times taller than herself.

Doesn't seem to have what you're looking for, but I think its worth posting anyway. That site has a good database of all skateboard related things, and can be sorted by skater or company. They have a good collection of clips, ads, and other info. It was also at least started by a goon, like 8 years or so ago.

A detailed board catalogue would be super difficult though, at least to gather retroactively. I bet a lot of the major brands don't even know every board they have put out.

Rated PG-34 posted:

Has anyone tried a surf adapter? The waterborne ones look cool albeit expensive for what they appear to be.

I might try one out. I already have a mini carbon fiber deck that I got on sale and intended to use for my electric board, but I don't like going all that fast on it. It's squirrely and a little too flexible for me to be mounting electronics on. That flex might be good for a surf board, but I'm also afraid it'd be too short.
I have also been trying these suspension trucks on a street deck, but I'm not good enough to have much of an opinion. They work as you'd expect, I guess. You can notice the extra give on sharp carves, and tricks feel a little softer. Not worth the price overall. I'd be curious to try a carbon street deck, and see how it wears.
If I get a surf adapter I will round the whole build out with some shark wheels and suspension trucks on my mini carbon board, and fully embrace the gimmicks.

Couldn't resist the temptation, and got the gimmick board all built. I like the look of it, and everything is smooth just loving about in the parking lot. The front trucks turn like 70 degrees, but it doesn't feel unstable by any means. The whole thing weighs about 6lbs. I will report more after I've used it a bit.

I think I've already pitched them, but if you like goofy, unique skating Fancy Lad is the best. Their videos are skateboarding epitomized to me. Matt Tomasello is probly the best technically, but I'm pretty sure most of those board contraptions are from spending too much time around Orange Man.

Since nobody responded about skate shoes, I'll throw in my good experiences with Vans compared to other brands' skate shoes. They have also been pretty consistent between styles. I was never good enough to really put shoes through the ringer and wear massive holes through the tops, but they always lasted the longest before seams would start coming apart or the soles were too thin.

I've watched this Suciu part a few times now, and while it is insanely good skating, I don't personally see it as all that groundbreaking or noteworthy. He has certainly taken classic tricks and applied them in smart, new ways, but the 'he mirrored 7 lines, truly revolutionary' stuff seems like a reach. I get that past a certain level of skill you do have to start accounting for trick choice / clip arrangement to grow, but the way he did it seemed fairly arbitrary and devoid of the meaning people are looking to apply to it. Comparing it to other art forms, he is the same category of someone who is super talented at like, hyper-realistic oil painting, or classical piano. I find those things very impressive, but people pushing boundaries in those mediums means about the same as Verso to me. If you get something out of watching a line and thinking, 'which trick of which part over the last 20 years was that paying homage to?' then more power to you, but I will comfortably remain a pleb who doesn't get it.
