Is there any option to reduce the size of windows 7's enormous taskbar? I'm gonna install the beta this weekend, and it looks like it will be too big even on 1920x1200. Maybe half the size would be nice. Does autohide take focus from fullscreen things?

Sweet, glad to know it's that easy. I keep hearing how much of a performance boost windows 7 is over vista, without looking at graphs, about how much performance is gained? Is it pretty visible? Does this impact with better overall system performance and better game performance?

I was only asking for personal opinions anyways rather than facts. Sounds good. What, if anything is the sort of "niggling feeling" you've all felt from using it? Like for me, it's been how much space Vista's UI takes up. It just feels wasteful to me most of the time. Sure it's clean, but I'd prefer it took up less space than it does in Explorer. Also, is the search better in 7? I wish it'd search better when I'm searching for folders rather than files. Like going into a folder, looking at a folder that says "BALLS" (for example) and typing BALLS should return everything that has BALLS in it. But no, it returns "no results found" or whatever. Dad has like three copies of XP Home, for whatever reason. I was using one of his because well, he's my dad and he let me use one. I bought vista ultimate off some goon who got it for free at a demonstration way back for about the price of a windows 7 home premium upgrade pre-order. I'll probably wait till march 2010 and bum a copy off someone or buy their key for cheap. $319 is steep, way too steep.

If yes, then gently caress them, they deserve to be part of a nice botnet and have their identities stolen or whatever. No, you're totally wrong. They get updates and everything from windows itself. When you have a pirated version, which is just basically an edited version of the WGA that windows uses or whatever is, Microsoft is like "sup, you genuine?" and your computer says "yep no issues here" and their servers gives the green light. That's how I assume it works, because it behaves like a "real" version. As for pirating windows, I haven't pirated windows ever personally, but frankly if I'm not getting the latest "full version" of Windows then I'm not interested. These "value packs" of home, and home premium and buisness and all this other poo poo are for the birds. One pack, that does everything, includes everything. No gimped copies of anything

Has anyone figured out how to display windows side by side? Shift click and right clicking on the taskbar buttons then clicking "display windows side by side" isn't there like in vista :[ In fact, shift clicking brings up another instance of the item you clicked.

Suddenly now when I play a game windows 7 hardlocks on me, to the point where I can't move the mouse, no sound, no anything. So I reset and tried again, still did it after a while of playing. When I went to turn on the computer the 2nd time, it got to the login screen, I got a black screen with a mouse. What do you think could be causing my computer to hardlock? I was running an old age of empires clone, so it's not over heating my CPU I think, plus it would restart if that's the case.

Is nvidia being stupid lately? My monitor's max refresh at 1920x1200 is 60hz, but I can only set it to 59hz and whenever I try to set it, it resets to 59hz. Same with nvidia scaling instead of monitor scaling. Any way to force this?

No, I just want to use hardware scaling because my monitor scales poorly in comparison. 800x600 is already on my list of resolutions, the lowest resolution I have actually.

How do I get windows to stop reminding me to restart my computer after I update? I updated my computer two weeks ago and it's like restart your computer to apply updates (just one or two things since I'm pretty good with keeping it updated) The most I can set it to is every 4 hours. I don't want to restart my computer, I'll restart when I feel like it (hardly ever because it's too much of a hassle), stop buggin me jerkass!

Too much of a hassle to shut my computer down and wait 5-10 (tops) minutes for it to start up and everything to be loaded up. Maybe if I set up a thing where I could make my computer restart when I'm not at home...Send a command to it and make it restart or something.

I wish I could get rid of the left pane sometimes. Windows feel cramped too much. I wish I could mod the top windows as well and scrunch the space up as well, minimalizing the whole thing. I've never seen a skin for windows 7 that isn't basically just adding some new color or background though, unfortunately.

Unless you have a computer from 2004. Windows 7 will fare better than Vista would but, if you don't have a good enough PC I think you shouldn't even bother really (2.4ghz processor or higher, 2gb of ram or higher) otherwise it'd feel slow. In my opinion that's my ideal minimum.
