How much money are you really losing if you throw the bottle of gin out and get another one?

Are e-readers able to display inline images (that is, images that are not the cover page)? I have a couple of books that made references to images that were not displayed. I'm using a Kobo Wifi with the latest firmware. The books I'm reading were these free and/or public domain ones that came with the device purchase. Many of them had formatting problems to begin with. Would this be to blame instead?

I'm pretty sure I've had my kobo show illustrations, so I'm willing to bet it's a badly made book or something.

Theologically, during the interim period between Joan of Arc's burning at the stake and her canonization, was she in hell?

Weatherproof posted:Is it normal for there to be floating bits in an unopened bottle of gin? If it's unopened and the floaties are pretty easy to see, can you not do a straight up exchange, without a receipt? I know that you can do that where I live, but it might be different from region to region, and we have government run liquor stores, if you're American it might be very different. But it's technically damaged goods, so if it's unopened and sealed, it should be exchangable. They would send it back to the distributor or distiller for a credit for imperfect item. I know I can be wrong, but trying to give you an option.

Going by the Bible itself, pretty much no one goes straight to hell, instead they get forever damned on Judgement Day; and kinda cease to be until the time comes to raise the dead for Judging. I think sainthood technically involves retroactively saying the person was already definitely in Heaven on the basis of all the stuff that was done. So Joan Of Arc was supposedly in heaven as soon as she died even though she had just been burned for things.

My brothers car stereo iPod USB port has been acting up. Is it cost effective to take it in somewhere to get fixed? How about buying a faceplate off Ebay? I believe he has the code for his stereo, but if he doesn't how hard is it to get?

There's no way to tackle that question based on the bible itself because it doesn't address it. If the issue is the current protestant churches' interpretation of hell, the bible doesn't even bring up that question. I'm trying to put this from my disinterested party POV, rather than my personal opinion. There's just not enough tinder in that dogma-box.

I believe God is the ultimate authority in these matters, and He's also always right, unlike the church which is technically fallible. So my guess is that she got burned, God brought her up to heaven and the Church said she was in hell, until they realized they were wrong and made her a saint. Edit: I'm not any sort of expert, this just makes sense to me. BonHair fucked around with this message at 09:47 on Dec 24, 2012 |

It's been a long LONG time since CCD class, but this sounds right. I think I recall that the process of canonizing a saint is thought of as simply an official recognition by the organization down here on Earth, and it doesn't actually change the status of the person's soul. Indeed, there are supposed to be bunches of unknown "saints" who just happened to go unrecorded by history. But there's a Catholic thread in Ask/Tell that I'm sure could answer this as much detail as you'd like.

Nah, the answer's gotta be "purgatory." That's where pretty much everyone except the most unrepentant sinners go, to get the evil tortured out of you.

RFID is radio frequency ID, which can be used to scan objects remotely with a scanner like the gates you walk through at a store or library. The things you capture with your phone camera are called QR codes:

True. If your smartphone of choice has nfc though, you can wirelessly scan that. You may only get a nonsense number out of it though.

Try InterPals. It's geared more towards international pen pals and language learning exchanges, but you can probably meet some people from your own country if that's what you want. I'm about to start snail mailing a pen pal from Shanghai I met on there personally.

"Prey" is the term for an animal that is hunted by another animal. "Game" and "quarry" are the terms for animals that humans hunt for entertainment. What would you call the target of a hunt that was done for commercial purposes, such as whaling?

He's asking about the ANIMAL, not the action. You'd never say "I'm going to go catch some fishing" today or "We're going to go get some big harvesting." With fish specifically, you could say "catch," as in "Today's catch consisted of 20 tons of mackerel."

For whales and fish it's usually "catch". Centzon Totochtin posted:Does anyone have experience with Diatomaceous earth as a roach deterrent? Would you recommend it? Great stuff.
