If I get the bad batch version, should I just immediately return it to newegg? I have my 1-month of premiere so I can do it no questions asked but I really wonder how good of an excuse "this is an obvious bad batch" even is for a normal purchase from newegg. It doesn't help that my geography requires that I order online and cannot check for batch number until the thing is shipped to me. God I wish I had a micro center.. :(

Return it and request the batch from this year.

I have a gift cert for a store that only has z87 mobos currently. The gift cert is going to expire soon and I don't think they will get the z97 stock in before that. Am I missing out by getting a z87 instead of a z97? Should I go somewhere else and pay with my hard earned lentils?

Note that your gift certificate is probably not expiring soon. Under federal law gift cards or certificates sold after 2010 may not expire for at least 5 years, and many states have laws saying the paid value never expires.

Actually its a staples reward account and they are very limited since they aren't technically a gift card. It expires on 7/31 and supposedly I cant even return it after that period. Kinda sucks, well it sucks big time but I got enough to buy a CPU/mobo, 16 gb ram and a samsung evo 500gb SSD. They also price match 110% for newegg, amazon and any website that also has a B&M store.

This loving sucks as TSX was one of the reasons I waited for a Devil's Canyon CPU. No word yet on what resolution will be for owners of affected products.

I just bought a 4790k, does this mean they will do a recall or am I just screwed out of this TSX instruction set?

Personally, I expect this to change in the next couple years since the Xbone and PS4 are both 8 core systems. Console to PC ports will probably start having higher thread counts. But, by the time that matters at all, you could probably upgrade again anyways. Probably be better building a nice devil's canyon based system now and upgrading to a Skylake-E or what ever 2 years for now.

Your rendering would probably make good use of the extra cores, though.

The consoles might have more cores but they don't do any good. Might help the PCs more by making them more optimized for multiple cores.

The asus hero maximus VII hero just got a BIOS update:

MAXIMUS VII HERO BIOS 2304
1.Support 5th-Generation Intel Core Processors
2.Support USB 3.1
3.Support NVMe
http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VII_HERO/HelpDesk_Download/

I looked up USB 3.1 and its pretty fast, up to 10gb/sec

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#USB_3.1

How is this possible in a BIOS update? Will this mean the USB 3.0 ports on the mobo now support 3.1 devices/speeds? Or even better does it make the 2.0 ports 3.1?
