Apparently they're not going to have DX11 support ready for the Steam release of Pinball Arcade, and thus won't be able to have all of the features they want to. DX11 "might" be coming. I wonder what visual stuff will be getting the axe.

Anyone who owns a PC capable of actually playing I beg of you buy the PC version. We've seen the patch bollocks from sony and whatever odd poo poo is going on with microsoft. There's just no point whatsoever buying a console version unless that's really the only option. The incredible bullshit going on with releasing anything on those platforms makes me want to weep.

I'm rather divided over the game now. I've had Steam wallet funds stored away for TPA's release for months- I loved William's Hall of Fame on the Wii. The reveal that it's not coming out on time, and that it's in nowhere near a state to come out on time, combined with Farsight's track record, and the knowledge that it won't have some basic modern PC features like DX11, is making me second-guess my decision. It just seems like the developers couldn't make a fully functional game to save their lives.

Has there ever been a pinball game with flippers on both sides for two players? Win by getting the ball into your opponent's drain? I imagine it'd have to be cocktail table shaped, and you'd have to design it with some kind of two-directional slant or something. I just saw some footage of a guy playing a hexagonal flat sit-down table and thought, if you put another set of flippers on the other end, you'd have something really amazing.

A proper Big Lebowski table would have to be predominantly bowling-alley themed.

Just checked Steam and it looks like Season 1 Pass is priced the same as PS3 (pack $29.99/pro pack $39.99), but Season 2 is more expensive (pack $39.99/pro pack $49.99).

I'm not seeing this; are the table packs listed individually as well? I'm not looking to throw down 30 bucks on what's likely still very buggy, so if they don't offer individual packs I'll probably wait until they're 50% off.

I'm so bad at tilting, and recognizing when to tilt and when to just hammer the flippers. If a ball is coming right down the middle of the playfield (as the genie in TOTAN will sometimes do to you), nudging once doesn't give enough of a directional change, and nudging twice tilts. Are you just boned?

Yeah, the temptation to buy a table pack is very strong, but 1) it seems like all the tables I want are paired with a table I don't care for, and 2) I really don't like the IAP thing, especially if there's a chance they're going to turn it into regular account-bound Steam DLC in the future.

Anybody else have the experience that, on PC TPA, once you change camera perspectives once, you lose the dynamic camera permanently? Like, you can set it back to that camera again, but it's not going to zoom in to show the PAID lights on Black Lagoon, etc.

Edit: Also, lighting the menu targets is a son of a bitch.

I'm not sure offhand what the key is on the PC version, but there's a separate setting that toggles whether the camera is 'locked', which disables the perspective changes. It'll show up as a padlock icon on the camera setting display.

Yeah, thanks for the info. It's clicking the thumbstick, if you're using a 360 pad.

What is the next Season 2 pack, anyways? I've got enough money in my Steam wallet to buy a pack, but there's no sense in buying anything from Season 1 because I'll get the season pass eventually, and from Season 2, every table I would want is packaged with something I have no interest in.

Man, trying to go to Pinball FX2 from Pinball Arcade feels weird. The physics feel weightless and I don't have any intuition as to what I'm doing on any of these tables, it's like there are a number of different modes overlapping with one another so the dot matrix display is hard to get info from.

I was talking poo poo about Pinball FX2 the other day, and the physics are still weird, but turning off the challenge scores and the popups for target scores has made the game a lot more understandable- there's just so much less stuff cluttering the screen. Plus, the Blade table owns.

Edit:

Does TPA change the free table monthly? So like, next month, Steam users will have a different table than TOTAN?

Nope, TOTAN is always free. There's just a rotating "Table of the Month" that you can play for free until the next Table Pack is released. Last month's TotM was Scared Stiff.

This doesn't seem to happen on PC, though?

Man, I was saying I liked the PFX2 Blade table yesterday, and I still kind of do- Blade is a cool theme, the day/night cycle is an interesting gimmick, the inventory and cash system is neat, but it's all squandered by that central loop that throws balls right down the drain irredeemably about 25% of the time.

I like the one that has Black Knight and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Black Knight is pretty oldschool and simple, easy multiball mode, and CFTBL is more of a modern-styled table with lots of features and a complex wizard mode. Really, though, just trial tables until you find one you really like.

I'm holding out for a Steam sale on season 1 myself, but I don't know if it'll ever come, considering it requires Farsight to actually communicate with Valve, and want to discount their tables in the first place.

I bought seasons 2 and 3 (not pro, never bought a custom ball) a while ago and I noticed that when selecting a ball, if I go right I can scroll through all the season 2 balls, but if I go left they're not there. Too bad all the season balls are ugly as sin.

If you're still on the fence about seasons, remember you can get like a 10% rebate in the form of steam cards... I got $6.41 back from ~$60 purchase. Down to luck though, some PA cards are going for $1+, some 40 cents.

Oh yeah, they're lazy as hell for sure. The T2 one with the little Arnold makes me laugh, though. And yeah, I have the same experience, scrolling right has a bunch of balls, left is normal.

Taxi's a neat table. I dig the art style of it, and it's kind of funny in a very timepiece kind of way. The table goal never really clicked with me, though. It's pretty simple, but it always seemed to me like a taxi-themed game should be about picking up passengers and then dropping them off at timed target ramps or something. Like, "take me to _____". Just seems like a natural fit. In Taxi, the goal is to pick up all the passengers at once and then hit the eject hole, if I remember right?
