I wish my department had a hackerspace when I was an undergrad. Would have been nice to have the extra resources. All we had was a lame IEEE branch and a defunct project club. Now things are more active, but the projects they get into seem kind of mundane (autonomous quad copter, makerbot mods, etc). They never seem to try building or designing anything from scratch. But I guess that's not what being a "hacker" is about.
