Well you know how people go to Vegas and say "I won 500 bucks in one hand playing poker, it was awesome!". Of course they totally omit, without further questioning, that they blew 2,000 dollars playing at the table, for a whopping total profit of negative 1500 bucks. I imagine bitcoins has quite a few people like this.

chaosbreather posted:Actually, it isn't: the only reason why someone would care enough about bitcoins to post in a bitcoins forum is if they didn't have any actual money. Their lack of real life success is what fuels their dreams for success in this new arena, where they believe the slates are wiped clean and the playing field to be level. They believe themselves to be intelligent and savvy, so if they are not successful their inevitable conclusion must be there is something wrong with the dollars, not with them. Anyone with money and experience with money would avoid this experiment like anthrax-infused radioactive feces. Anyone without money and experience with money but don't believe that they are the second coming of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs would similarly avoid it because it is alien and risky sounding. My god... it all makes perfect sense Especially with "living out of his car" dude

Tasty and Delicious posted:I wasn't being serious but what happened to the doll industry? Basically items back then shared the same sku, so Darth Vader figure had the same sku as someone far less popular... let's say Jar Jar's Dad. So what some people would do is buy out all the Darth Vaders and sell them on ebay for a huge markup. Then they would take the receipt that they bought all the Vaders with and trade in the lovely old Jar Jar Dad's figures they couldn't sell, getting their money back. It definitely contributed to stores going out of business, as they were paying for returns for the wrong merchandise that nobody wanted. Then people got even bolder returning in their busted up Jar Jar's Dad figure they had as a kid stuffed in a box sealed with duct tape, so ultimate profit!! So yeah, now everything has a unique sku.
