The OLED thing sounds weird but intriguing. I hope they at least announce something in June so I can decide if I'll wait or buy the rMB.

I have a hub that has 3 USB3 ports, an HDMI port and a port to plug the charging cable in. It works great when I need to hook up my T3 drive and iPad Pro or external monitor.

That same rumor says late 2016 release so maybe we won't see anything at WWDC.

Actually, I might interested in that sort of deal if it's like that Optimus keyboard with tiny screens in every key that made all the rounds on the tech sites like a decade ago. Like that pic is a poor use of it as a glorified app launcher, but it would be kind of cool to have keys that dynamically changed image, (like 'X' to 'scissors icon' when you held down Command, or icons for your video game hotkeys or whatever. I'm not sure if that thing ever got off the ground in a non-buggy and non $1,000 way. I'm highly skeptical that a touch bar with no tactile feedback would be able to accomplish that as well as keys though, and if it just ends up been a touchscreen with static volume controls, then it's no better than ever lovely HP laptop I had in the 2000's with awful non standard volume controls and 'Email' buttons and what have you. As long as we're discussing Apple keyboards, does anyone else think it would be nice if they included their moon language symbols for things like Option and Escape, i don't know, printed on the actual keys?

Where is this "rumor" coming from since no one posted a source and just decided to freak out about it instead. Edit: coming from Ming-Shi Kuo who has has a pretty good record. He did predict iPhone SE colors similar to the 5c and the iPhone 6 to have a programmable power button though, so this could still be a miss. Yeah, I do have my doubts since saying specifically that it's going to be OLED sounds like a buzzword thrown out for more clicks. I'm more so infuriated that someone would throw it out as a suggestion or even imply it's a great idea. Also doesn't help that Apple's been making some weird design decisions lately.

I'm pretty sure my 2009ish Dell XPS 13 had a few resistive(!) touch controls above the kb, including the power button. It was always a crapshoot to use and just faster to use the Windows UI.

I can't understand the purpose? I hope they aren't doing it to be weird, like to put the dock down there for you to hit icons with your finger, or in some lame attempt to make the keyboard smaller. I quite like my function keys, even if I only really use half of them. Without knowing more, I hope it's just some crazy-rear end rumor, something told for fun or as a supplier loyalty/secrecy test.

Looks like Apple pushed out firmware updates for the 802.11ac AEBS and Time Capsule (v7.7.7, previous release was 7.7.3): https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1708?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US Aaaand also for the 802.11n AEBS, Airport Express, and Time Capsule (v.7.6.7, previous was 7.6.4): https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1880?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US See the URLs for explanations of the tweaks. Upgrading current Apple wireless hardware can only be done through Airport Utility in /Applications/Utilities.

I'm still on my 2013 MBA with its struggling 4 gigs of ram and was hoping for the MBP/MBA refresh to be real good, but if they gently caress this up I'm gonna end up on the 12" Macbook, which I'm not looking forward to. I'm actually not that annoyed by the one-cable-ness, since it'll be nice to only plug two cables (thunderbolt + audio) into my computer at home instead of four (power + video + usb + audio), but the keyboard seems really unpleasant, and it seems kind of underpowered for the price

Tons of people have posted trip reports with their MacBooks, you don't need to worry about specs unless you're a niche case or a 14 year old boy. To me it sounds like it handles basic photo editing, programming, and general use without hiccups.

MrBond posted:It's only USB C 3.0, not thunderbolt or 3.1 yet. Ah, right. I didn't even know there was a 3.1. I don't suppose there's a way to get audio out of that port to like a 3.5mm adapter, is there? I assume the HDMI adapter carries audio but my monitor doesn't have a speaker port or anything. I know there's a 3.5mm port on the thing but I just figure I might as well try to plug in/unplug as few cables as possible. tuyop posted:Tons of people have posted trip reports with their MacBooks, you don't need to worry about specs unless you're a niche case or a 14 year old boy. I do web dev and occasionally dabble in game dev and my MBA is okay 99% of the time but occasionally chugs on a build or something. Though that may just be because it's swapping a bunch, right now I'm working on something and the lil "memory pressure" graph in the Activity Monitor is a solid yellow
