You know what the Ukraine is? It's a sitting duck. A road apple, Newman. The Ukraine is weak. It's feeble. I think it's time to put the hurt on the Ukraine

I figured I'd forgo the Recommendation thread and see if my request would gain more traction here.

Can anyone recommend me some dark/moody/foreboding/spooky jazz similar to the song Sycamore Trees?

It can be subtle and smooth or crazy and erratic. I'm literally up for anything.

The ultimate foreboding jazz album is An Empty Bliss Beyond this World by The Caretaker (Leyland Kirby.) He sampled a load of old jazz records to create this incredibly strange audio collage, that's supposed to represent the music which plays in the Gold Room from The Shining, when nobody's around.

Miles Davis never made an album called Strange Fruit, what are you talking about?

Place to start with Miles Davis is Kind of Blue. To my knowledge he only made one album that features Hip Hop sampling, Doo-Bop. It was released posthumously as he died in the process of recording. Unfortunately it's a but weak overall but the opening track, Mystery, is one of my top ten favourite Miles tunes.

If I want to start listening to Latin jazz, what albums/artists should I start with?

I pretty much only listen to jazz on the radio at this point.

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto is a classic. As is Stone Flower by Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Does anyone have any recommendations for albums that come from the more melodic end of hard bop? Soul-jazz type stuff, I guess would be a good way of describing what I'm looking for. Organ-led or otherwise would all be appreciated.

Not entirely sure what all the words in this post mean, but I think you might like Fingerlickin' good by Lonnie Smith:

First track from the soundtrack to that Miles Davis movie has just been released. They got Robert Glasper to sample a studio outtake from the In A Silent Way sessions to create this sort of RnB style song and it actually sounds kind of cool:
