I've only started watching the show like a week ago and it's really great. Thanks for all your efforts in translating this.

I watched the Street Fighter II episode first and wondered why it was so engaging to watch a guy do 5000 yoga flames in a row, but now I know. I almost wanted to skip the Zelda III episode, but I watched it yesterday and it's awesome. Gotta love Arino's interesting takes on some of the puzzles (like trying to capture the old guy in a bottle) his trademark getting stuck ridiculously long on sections that aren't that difficult, and of course the "great-moshi-moshi-tactics"-section or whatever it's called. The best part was the ending, of course :unsmith:

Welcome to our little club. :)

It's actually a good thing you watched the Zelda 3 episode as one of your first episodes, because IIRC, it's generally considered a pretty weak episode due to how much of the challenge got cut out for time.

Yeah, that's why I wanted to skip it, you can't really cut Zelda 3 to less than an hour without leaving out too much, but the rest of the episode was great and I know Zelda 3 in and out anyway so it wasn't so bad. It's also interesting to watch him struggle through the same sections that I had trouble with as a kid.

I'm pretty sure I never had one of those either...

Anyway, I watched the Ultraman episode yesterday, checked the game's mobygames page and noticed that the graphics are completely different (better, but still ugly as hell). Apparently they got a complete overhaul for th US and EU release. That's kind of amazing. That's not the type of game I'd expect to get released outside of Japan to begin with, let alone receive a pointless makeover.

Thanks!
Does this mean we might see Arino challenging Kula World at some point? I hope so. The game has like 200 levels and it gets pretty hard at level 100 or so. They could probably get two episodes and a live challenge out of it. Though if Arino already gets motion sick from Intelligent Qube, he propably can't stomach Kula World.

While it's nice that they lifted the "nextgen" ban, this episode reminded me that my favorite episodes are about Arino sufferering through obscure 8-bit games. With that in mind, I made a list of games that I'd love to see challenged (some aren't 8-bit and you don't need a video for lots of these but whatever):

Yeah, Hagane has somewhat complex controls and requires skill to beat, so no chance for Arino. Lost Vikings could be interesting. I also wouldn't mind him taking on another Solomon's Key variant, there are at least two for GB/GB Color.

Well done, Cat Machine.

So how many Mario Maker episodes have there been? The niconico one, the untranslated live challenge and the nintendo channel one, right? Will the live challenge be translated? This has probably been answered before, but there's so much talk about various Mario Maker eps that I've lost track.

I just came here to post this. I think it would make a great challenge. It suits Arino's playing style (mostly short stages you need to go through multiple times, continues, rewards grinding) while also being unfair and obscure and exposing his weaknesses.

Wow, that's an obscure pick - it's a Capcom game but it's one they've never acknowledged since it originally came out. It's a pretty decent Rolling Thunder/Shinobi-style game.

I've never heard of that game before, but watching a playthrough of it and skipping the video to the middle of the first level, I immediately knew it was a capcom game, just because of the sound and music - it probably had the same composer as Duck Tales. Looks like it could be a fun challenge.

I wouldn't mind if they did more 32-bit games, but there are still many NES games that are almost guaranteed to be good (Clash at Demon Head for example). It's weird how they've had a few obviously bad choises for Arino (like Gradius or Zelda:OOT), when there are still games that seem like total no-brainers. I appreciate that they want to change things up a bit, but Arino clawing his way through some bullshit 8-bit platformer is almost always good.

imo those are the weaker episodes. it's just arino doing the same stage over and over for most of the time block. i'd much rather have a two- or three-parter of majora's mask where he's loving perplexed at snowhead temple

When he's just dying a thousand times in a row in the same spot with no highlights, yeah that's pretty boring. But there've been plenty of good platformer episodes like the Mega Man episodes, Prince of Persia and others. By bullshit I don't mean bullshit hard (and too hard for Arino) but rather weird mechanics and obscure secrets. Then again, I also really like the Bio Increaser Dan episode, so whatever.
