Um.. wow. At least it looks to be primarily side scrolling. Makes me feel less ashamed I couldn't complete the Saturn Capcom Generation 2 Makaimura trifecta yesterday; fatigue set in during the second loop of Cho Makaimura and I called it a night. Thanks for the Makaimura love with this translation!

On a related note here's a Ghosts 'n Goblins / Makaimura ceramic fruit bowl my girlfriend drew and painted last year -

The inside depicts the six stages of the game and the final objective in the center.

The outside depicts the game's opening.

I've been pestering her off and on to do a Daimakaimura piece since then but if the series is revisited it'll probably be based off the cartoony style from Nazo Makaimura.

And by the different pins, do you mean it has extra pins on the side, or it has more on the board?

I did a writeup on this a while back, and as orochi said, it's all in the pin tooling...

If all of the following are met the cartridge will contain converter hardware...
-An early release Nintendo published game, "black box" titles such as Gyromite, Duck Hunt, Pinball, etc.
-A five screw shell, using standard flathead screws.
-The little assembly fingers on the edges of the connectors will be over to the side, rather than in the center.

That last point is the big one. After finding an early release Nintendo game with five standard screws on the back, look at the connectors. On the very bottom edge of each connector there will be little fingers, these are used to align the connectors in manufacturing, then the part that holds them all together is removed. Think of how parts come in a plastic model kit, that's basically how the connectors are set during assembly. If the little fingers are in the center, the cartridge will not have a converter. If they are over to the side, then the cartridge will have a 100% chance of containing a converter.

Then break out the tools and build yourself a converter! Also remember that NES/Famicom cartridge shells are "flipped" so NES label side up, Famicom label side down.

Actually, there are some non-black box games that can have converters. Here's the list of games from the guide I linked to the other day. Bolded games are the non-black box games.

    1942
    Clu Clu Land
    Donkey Kong Jr.
    Duck Hunt
    Elevator Action
    Excitebike
    Golf
    Gumshoe
    Gyromite
    Hogan’s Alley
    Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!
    Pinball
    Raid on Bungeling Bay
    Rygar
    Soccer
    Stack Up
    Tennis
    Urban Champion
    Wizards and Warriors
    Wrecking Crew

I've heard that every copy (or almost every copy) of Stack Up has a converter. But, the game itself is a little pricey even for a used cart (VGPC has it listed for $37.60 as I type this).

This is true, but if you're looking for no-brainer, absolute certainty, cheap cartridges for converters, go with the blackbox titles with the above criteria.

If you're into arcade gaming in the Bay Area, check out California Extreme and the Pacific Pinball Exposition / Pacific Pinball Museum. California Extreme is one of the greatest, if not the premiere, arcade game collector's show in the world and is always an awesome weekend. While the Pacific Pinball Expo isn't in the best venue and can get overcrowded it's still the world's largest pinball show although I would recommend a visit to the Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda over it.

The whole Aces of Hardware segment might as well have been Kibe's Corner. Look at their system selection: Sega Master System, Sega SG-1000, Sega Game Gear, and then if they have time for it they'll do the 3do, Cassettevision, and Puter. I suppose it could be that Sega had more failed hardware than anyone but it really feels like Kibe just wanted to show off his collection.

Yup, Bomberman is the DVD challenge in question. D J I

Also - the Famicom Dragon Quest games all received some kind of rework and additions for the NES release. As well as battery save, later games had more elaborate title screens, enhanced graphics (even DQ I had an enhanced player overworld sprite) and the like.

The changes are covered in Chrontendo as the games are reached in the timeline. Dragon Quest is at about 50 minutes in of Episode 8 - http://archive.org/details/Chrontendo_Vol_8

Demon's Crest, OTOH, is one of those games that I've been expecting for a while. Since they may be doing a revisiting the great hits for the 10th anniversary year it might turn up in season 17...

I'd love to see Nazo Makaimura challenged at some point, or at least used as a warmup or... something. Wonder how the Puzzle Chief would do at a puzzle based GnG.

Speaking of challenges I'd like to see, I still can't believe Arino hasn't challenged Bomber King / Robowarrior! The game showed up previously during the games of 1987 segment but that was it. It just seems to have so much going for it that would make it a perfect fit for the show:

1. Developed by Hudson Soft.
2. A spinoff of the Bomberman series (honestly where the single player mode of Bomberman should have continued).
3. Some stages are deviously tricky in that you must recover a hidden item or the stage loops endlessly.
4. Brutally punishing powerup system where your energy meter constantly drains and must be replenished via items, damage is taken out of the same meter, and if you die then all your item inventory is halved on restart.
5. The second boss is a giant fire-breathing segmented dragon that is fought while lightning falls from above.
6. The Japanese version has a theme song with lyrics, accessed in a karaoke mode from the main menu after completing the first stage - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3ok24j1B3o

I suppose the game is somewhat repetitive but so are a lot of games featured on the show that made great challenges.

If you're into arcade games, especially if you reside in Northern California, I would suggest checking out California Extreme at http://www.caextreme.org. It's the largest collector owned arcade show in the world. Essentially private owners bring their machines to one location for a weekend, you pay a modest fee to get in, and everything is on free play from 10:30am - 2am Saturday / Sunday and 10:30am - 9:00pm Sunday. Some of the remaining industry parts suppliers have tables and Stern Pinball has had a setup over the past couple years but really it's just people that collect and restore the games. You can buy and sell there as well; I've bought machines off the floor in previous years. There's a lot of pinball there in addition to arcade games but if pinball is more your thing, there's the Pacific Pinball Exposition in San Rafel which is the largest pinball show in the world and of course the awesome Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda. That would have been an awesome location to shoot an arcade segment during the USA special.

Agreed. I prefer DVD over all but I would rather see it on Netflix than Crunchyroll for one reason: Crunchyroll is niche, Netflix is mainstream. The more people I introduce GameCenter CX to, the more people love it. I'm guessing most of us would like the show to be available to the widest possible audience and that would be to have it pop up on every Netflix streaming dashboard.

This, especially if it goes to Netflix. How often does something get released exclusively to Netflix? Pretty much never as almost always it's just a streaming offer of something already available on a hard format. How often does something get released exclusively to Crunchyroll, halting all high quality fansub production overnight? Quite a bit, as any fan of Galaxy Express 999 will tell you.

The Family Trainer/Power Pad returns!

Please let it be Manhattan Police / Street Cop! I'm assuming that the show still has a good licensing agreement with wherever the rights for Human developed games ended up.

I'd still like to see Bomber King / Robowarrior (a callback to the Bomberman special, I can always dream at least) or Arabian Dream Scheherazade / Magic of Scheherazade since the Famicom and NES versions are just different enough to make them separately interesting.

Random Stranger posted:

Mickey Mousecapades is a Hudson game and Konami owns Hudson's assets now. Since Konami seems less willing to let Game Center CX use their games in recent years, it probably has something to do with that.

My theory on why that's the case: the long running Arino/Kojima feud.

A live action film of Kage was announced about a decade ago but like a lot of licensed projects that get announced it quietly vanished into the mists without a trace.

There was, however, a sequel for the Nintendo DS...

I always felt NES Demon Sword was a spiritual follow up.

Bio Senshi Dan is a pretty interesting game. It also had a canceled but completed localization and rework as Bashi Bazook Morphoid Masher.
