I'm gonna throw some dissent into the mix and say I don't like the new gif -> narrative -> repeat format. Watching the gif and then reading the narrative is annoying when you want to know about a specific part of the gif and then need to rewatch it til you find it.

Ultimately the crowd will decide though, I suppose, and I won't bitch about it.

I was concerned that the GIFs wouldn't work, but they seem to work surprisingly well. Plank has a decent point about the narrative being a repeat, but I think that there's only so much that you can do, really. It's DEFINITELY better than having 50 screenshots of "pew! pew! pew!"

Flak jackets and Kevlar should probably start popping up around the 3rd sector of Drassen, I should think. Especially with the BAR, the relative scarcity of thirty-ought-six is going to be a problem (I should mention that I'm also planning on forbidding Bobby Ray purchases until after the Drassen SAM is cleared).

The maps are excellent, but as a warning the mod adds such a massive amount of new items that it can be kind of overwhelming. It also inexplicably replaces a lot of the story-related emails you receive with random bullshit full of screaming all-caps and multiple exclamation points, and has a few occasional bugs with things like misplaced/poorly placed spawn points and the like.

Overall, though, it's a fun mod, and I'd recommend at least trying it. Don't play it without tweaking the .ini files to your liking first, of course - the default ini configuration is less than ideal.

I like the gifs, but keep the narration in. While I usually get a rough idea of what's going on from the gifs, I've never played JA and I'm unused to reading its maps, so I only get broad strokes. Besides, I like the fluff. Slowing down the gifs is a good idea.

It's a neat mod, but it does change the balance of the game quite a bit because of how the higher end weapons like assault rifles and LMGs are available much sooner than they normally would be (in the basic 1.13 you'd be clearing Drassen with pistols and maybe a couple SMGs at the best). This isn't necessarily a bad thing - I always find the early game drags a bit because you're stuck with pistols.

E11, pretty big complex, lots of mines, lots of gear. I think WF classifies the area as a "Weapons Cache", and there's a couple of them spread throughout the country. They're pretty important for the flow of some of the WF mods, as they ramp up enemy gear quite quickly and if you don't have drop all or Bobby Rays on max with a lot of money, you might have trouble keeping up.

You might want to check your INI's though, as there should be a setting for whether all these caches will show up, or if only a subset of them chosen at random (default) will. That might be related to the actual WF mod, and not apply to using just the maps, though. Either way, those places should be worth checking out and I got loads of stuff from the one near Drassen when I played with just the maps.

Here's a link with a map with all of their locations marked: http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=160812

The supply depot at the Chitzena harbor also has a metric fuckton of gear for you to steal, but that's quite a ways off. It will at the very least give you an M4 with ammo, an AKS-74U with ammo, ten thousand plus dollars in silver, and a bunch of other miscellaneous items like grenades and gun mods - and that's not even including what the enemies are carrying.

Also, once you've knocked off that SAM site and can buy from BR, I'd recommend trying out the DeLisle Carbine for sneaky stuff. In real life it's one of the quietest firearms ever manufactured by human hands, and the game accurately reflects that - it's basically silent, even without cold loaded ammo. Decent accuracy and fire rate in the hands of a sniper, too. Useless for general combat, though - I have my squad designated marksman carry his Delisle and ammo in a drop bag which gets ditched upon entering the map if it looks like we'll be going loud.

I like the gifs fine, but the way it reads now is kinda unpleasant. I'd first recommend putting the story first, then the gif, so we know what we're seeing. Secondly maybe breaking up some of the gifs might help, too. You do have a lot of information in them, and while alone it's pretty much "The squad shoots some mans" with narrative it becomes more than that and it hasn't quite meshed well for me.

That said, I am enjoying it on the whole so far. Also Michael should still ask Max for some help, at the very least maybe getting some satellite fly-by's for intelligence on what's going on in country, giving Michael some sort of heads up about whatever they're going to be facing.

It's a fun show, but it starts going downhill during/after season 2. The flavor of the week bits tend to be pretty good but the overarching plot line tends to suck pretty hardcore. I'm fairly certain that my favorite (and possibly the best episode) "Bad Breaks" is a season two or three episode, and it basically involves Michael getting stuck in a bank robbery/hostage situation and just being his most Michael Westen to save the day (also one of the earliest/best Chuck Finley bits too). And that's the core of the episode and it's pretty awesome but the beginning and end bits about the seasonal plot are just kinda lame and bland.

I mean, I love the show, it's just kinda gone downhill from season one. But I don't wanna derail this thread so early.

Elliot, you IDIOT!
Drassen Airport, Arulco
June 24, 2011 -- 2305 EST

"You’ve got to be kidding me, Mike. Regime change?”

"I know this isn’t exactly in our wheelhouse, Sam, but--…”

"Our wheelhouse? This isn't even on our boat! You sure you don’t have heatstroke or somethin’?”

“I’m reasonably confident that I don’t. What I do have is a small-island-nation’s-worth of ground to liberate, and Fi and I can’t do it alone. Can I count on you, Sam?”

"Yeah, yeah. It’s not like I got anything else going on this week.”

“Do me a favor and see if you can talk Jesse into coming with you. We’re gonna need him on this one, too.”

“Oh, yeah! He was just telling me how much he wanted to involve himself in a third-world guerilla war.”

"Sam, just tell him to think about how he’ll feel in a few months, when we’re all back in Miami swapping stories about overthrowing a dictator and all he’s got to offer is a riveting tale of how he did some security consulting for Dwayne Wade’s wife’s personal trainer.”

“…”

“…”

“Yeah, that could work.”

“Anyways, you’ll need to charter a helicopter with a very good pilot. He’ll need to fly in low – really low – to avoid detection. Have him drop you off on the east side of Omerta. We’ll meet you there.”

“Gotcha, Mike. We’ll be there as soon as we can.”

“Thanks, Sam.”

-----------------------------------------

Omerta, Arulco
June 25, 2011 -- 0524 EST

With the first rays of dawn creeping over the horizon, Michael, Fiona, Ira, and Dimitri trudge wearily through Omerta and down into the hidden cellar that harbors the last of the rebels.

"Greetings, my friend. We had reports of shooting by the airport. It is good to see you all alive and well.”

“Thank you. It’s good to see you, too.”

"Were you able to break through the jamming? Did you reach your friend to come help you escape?”

“I did, yes, but there has been a change in our plans. We’re not leaving, Miguel.”

"…I’m sorry?”

"We’ve decided to stay in Arulco. We’re going to help you get your country back.”

"But… but the rebellion is in tatters. Deidranna’s forces are too strong for us!”

" You’ve lost a battle, Miguel, but not the war. You said yourself that the people still support you. And as long as you’re alive, there’s hope.”

“If we score some victories against the Army… If we hit some high-visibility targets and give the Queen a bloody nose, would the Arulcans fight?”

"The people are fearful, but if we show them that the Army can be hurt…”

Miguel nods along with Carlos. A fire has been ignited behind his eyes.

"Yes… they would need training and equipment, but the people will fight with us. The people will rise against Deidranna, and they will fight like lions!”

-----------------------------------------

Omerta, Arulco
June 25, 2011 -- 0524 EST

The group settles in to await Sam and Jesse’s arrival. Michael and Dimitri begin stripping, cleaning, and maintaining the weapons and gear they have scavenged, while Ira cleans and sews up Fiona’s wound. As they work, Fiona answers Ira’s questions about what would be involved in actually training and leading an Arulcan militia.

Finally, at 2243, they hear the thrumming of an approaching helicopter. The chopper skims in very low over the trees and touches lightly down in a clearing. Michael and Fiona jog to meet Sam and Jesse as they debark.

“Thank you guys for coming. I owe both of you big.”

"drat straight you do. I’m takin’ a month off without pay for this little excursion of yours.”

“Good to see you, too, Jesse. Let’s get underground. There’s an enemy patrol over on the west side of the city, and I want to make sure we’re nowhere to be found if they heard the chopper and decide to come investigate.”

Any successful war requires two very important things. Money, and people willing to fight. If you have both? Congratulations. You’re already halfway to victory. If you have neither? Well, you had better get to work.

Michael, Fiona, Sam, Jesse, and the rebels stand together, deep in conversation.

"If we can free the mines, the miners will work for us. They have little love for the Queen. She drives them like dogs.”

"As long as the port in Chitzena is closed to us, we cannot ship the ore. But if you can open the harbor, that should give us a steady stream of income.”

“But that also means taking and holding territory, which is not the best way to prosecute a guerilla war. We need to keep moving. Tie up the Army with searching for us. If they don’t know where we are, they have to protect everywhere. They’ll spread their defenses too thin to be effective.”

"But if we don’t control those resources, we’ll never get the funding to wage a proper war.”

“What about the Arulcans? Once the cash starts flowing, we can train and equip them, and they can be our garrisons.”

“But who’s gonna train ‘em if we’re busy hitting targets?”

Michael thinks for a moment.

“We’re gonna need more people.”

"Mercenaries?”

"Outsiders…”

Carlos scowls.

“Professionals. I don’t doubt that the Arulcans can fight, Carlos, but we need experienced trainers to train up a militia that will be worth anything in a fight against regular Army. And if we’re going to try and control territory, we’ll need at least a couple teams of seasoned operatives on the ground, striking at the Army and keeping them off-balance. Ambushing patrols and reinforcements, seizing facilities, capturing supplies we can use and destroying those we can’t…”

“And we need to be doing that all over the country at all times. That means mobility. We’ll need transportation, Miguel.”

"There is an old jeep here in Omerta that you can use, if you can find enough gasoline to keep it running.”

“Miguel, what about that helicopter at the airport? Do you have anyone who can fly it?”

"Unfortunately, no. The helicopter belongs to a man called James Bullock. He used to give aerial tours of Arulco before Deidranna’s coup.”

“I know James. He calls himself ‘Skyrider.’ That was the name of his tour company. The Queen wanted him to fly for the Army, but he just gave her the bird and disappeared into the swamp.”

“Heh. I like this guy already.”

“Do you know how to find him?”

“Unfortunately, no. The swamps around Drassen are like a maze. He does come into the city occasionally for supplies, though. If we ask around, maybe someone’ll know where to find him.”

“There’s still that SAM site to think about, too. Even if we find this Skyrider, the first time we try flying anywhere we’ll end up with little bits of us scattered all over northern Arulco.”

"That’s not the only SAM site, either. There are four, maybe five more around the island. Deidranna does not have an air force, so building the missile sites to control Arulco’s airspace was one of the first things she did when she seized power.”

“We’ll have to clear them as we go, then.”

“What about weapons and armor? If we’re going to be raiding secure facilities and fortified positions, we’re gonna need better equipment than World War Two antiques and civilian-grade stop-sign plinkers.”

“Once the money starts moving, I should be able to arrange some hardware through my contacts. They should be able to deliver into Drassen.”

"There is also Tony, a man in San Mona who keeps some small stock of guns and ammunition for sale. But if you go to San Mona, you must be very careful of Kingpin and his men. He is a ganglord who controls the city. Deidranna seems content to stay out of his business, but if he thinks it is profitable to turn you over to her, he will do so in a heartbeat.

“If it is weapons you need, Deidranna also has a few weapons depots around Arulco. One is not too far away – off the road between Drassen and Cambria. We were preparing a raid just before the Army retook Drassen and drove us back here.”

“You know, all this talk of finding cool new gear is great, but let’s keep in mind that we can’t eat guns. We’re down to bread crusts and cockroaches here. If we don’t start getting a regular supply of food, water, and medical supplies, we’re lose what few people we have left.”

"Ira is right. We need a new supply line. Father Walker used to get us what we needed, before we were pushed out of Drassen. If you can reach him and let him know that we are still alive, still fighting, he should be able to get us what we need to stay alive until the airport is secure and we can begin flying in supplies.”

“So this is a pretty full dance card we’re looking at, here. What do you think, Mike? Where do we go first?”

Current Objectives:
A) Food, water, and supplies for the rebels (Drassen)
B) Secure mines (Drassen, Chitzena)
C) Secure SAM sites (Drassen, Chitzena)
D) Secure port to ship out ore (Chitzena)
E) Find Skyrider (somewhere near Drassen)
F) Raid weapons depot (SW of Drassen)
G) Find Tony the arms dealer (San Mona)

:siren:Decision time!:siren:

Alright, thread. What should Mike, Fi, Sam, and Jesse do from here? Feel free to string together several options if they make sense, like hitting Chitzena by way of Tony the arms dealer (as San Mona is right along the way to the coast). Also feel free to suggest some options that aren’t listed, if you have better ideas. We’d be hard-pressed at this point to pull off a raid on the military academy/base at Alma or break prisoners out of Tixa, for example, but if that’s what the masses demand, so be it.

Just to be clear, I'm not just looking for advice from the experienced JA2 crowd, but also from any Burn Notice regulars on what would be an appropriate course of action for the characters.

A and F are the only choices we have that are remotely feasible.

A) Food, water, and supplies for the rebels (Drassen)
B) Secure mines (Drassen, Chitzena) We're not ready yet.
C) Secure SAM sites (Drassen, Chitzena) We're not ready yet, and without money to buy supplies there's no point in clearing up the airspace for the airport.
D) Secure port to ship out ore (Chitzena) Without mines, there's no point
E) Find Skyrider (somewhere near Drassen) With the SAM sites still active, there's no point.
F) Raid weapons depot (SW of Drassen)
G) Find Tony the arms dealer (San Mona) We don't want to get involved in this yet.

Also, how did you get Sam and Jesse to show up? I thought you had to knock out the SAM site before you could fly anything into the airport.

They didn't actually fly into the airport. In JA2, as long as the SAM sites are still up, there are only two sectors of free airspace where newly hired mercs (and IMPs -- the free created mercs) can enter. Those are over east and west Omerta. In this playthrough, I explained it by saying Sam would have to hire a chopper to fly in low over Omerta for the insertion.

The limit on no mail-order guns until the SAM site is cleared is entirely arbitrary, though. That's not built into the game.

As for all the speculation on other BN-universe characters turning up... I'll just say there might be a familiar face or two still to come.

Wow guys, you're all missing something important here. If we're going into Drassen to meet up with Walker (which we should do), we might as well grab the mine there before heading out for a hit on the weapons depot.

So that's
A then B(but only Drassen mine) and then F.

Sure, the mine itself won't do us any good yet, but who knows, there might be some assets laying around we can liquidate, and raiding a weapons depot is serious poo poo. The kind of serious poo poo where we probably don't want to go through the front door. I bet a mine has the kinds of explosives that allow us to create our own entrance.
