Man I'm sorry, I sympathize. Nobody tells you that your body will start breaking down in your middle twenties and presumably get worse from there. I can't even think about doing something strenuous outside a pool without clearing the next day for icing and laying on the floor. When I play basketball now I stand at the 3 point line and lightly jog back on defense. It really sucks, but there are things you can do without putting undue strain on your body, and if you're very very conscientious about training, biomechanics, and recovery, you can still do what you love once in a while.

Sypher posted:Ok So I am 100% officially signed up for a league. I am 29 years old and haven't played since High School. Nobody on my team besides myself and one other has played an organized game of basketball beyond youth. It should be hilarious, but I ask you. What is the best way to be somewhat competitive? I am thinking just man to man defense with a lot of pick & roll plays. I have a couple extremely athletic players on my team(one of them is top 100 cross-fit in the USA), but they have no bball IQ. Give me some ideas for easy plays for a bunch of newbies. Get on that Steph Curry non jumping jumpshot. Then, like everyone else said, teach everyone the basics of the pick and roll, my Church league basketball coach taught me in a day and I was just some dumb kid in a polo shirt. It's not hard at all.

laz0rbeak posted:I didn't throw any punches, but about a year and a half ago I was on a court with a really sketchy white dude with dreads. He was getting mad at the 16-17 year old kid guarding him too tight, and after the two did a little trash-talking, he comes down with the ball and when the kid goes to guard him, he just sucker-punched him. I got between them, and this little poo poo takes a few swings at me like I'm coming at him, instead of, you know, separating him from the teenager he just punched. I ended up biting through my lip and getting a few stitches, along with a black eye, and was a groomsmen in a wedding that weekend looking like Frankenstein's monster. Of course the dude took off immediately, and the gym's only listed address for the guy was out of state, so even though I pressed charges, nothing ever happened. I hope he didn't give you herpes simplex 10 or anything

I finished my first 2 months of rehab for my back, and I'm waiting on a new rx for more. So I played a little pickup at the gym and could actually jump and move a little bit. It was nice.

What's the best basketball shoe review place? I'm looking for some basket shoes that are extra fortified and that can support the brittle ankles of a pan european body.

I have poo poo insurance too so I can't really do anything about it Theres a book called becoming a supple leopard that sort of walks you through fixing body stuff. If you can't get your insurance to pay for rehab it's worth a shot.

danucleus posted:This is more a strength (probably technique too) related question: how do you guys keep from getting stripped within the arc? I'm 5'10" and I would like to cut and get in the paint way more than I normally do, but it's hard because when interior D is packing in, I sometimes get stripped. I just hate getting stripped in these or 50/50 situations and sometimes I think the defense may be reaching in, but who wants to be that guy? I hate hugging the ball in these situations because it stops everything, but maybe that's what I should just do? If they're reaching in, don't be afraid to hip bump them or give them a stiff arm. I suppose you might want to do squats to strongthin your legs and do some back and core work to give you the power to push

Have you tried wrapping your ankles and your insoles? That helps a lot. If I don't, the big knobby bone on the top of the arch aches forevermore. My strategy now is to wrap everything, I wrap insoles, ankles, knees, and elbows. When you pass 26 any lateral movement in the joints comes back to haunt you, better to prevent it at the source.

If I know I haven' had any exposure in a while, then I'll play without wrapping them, but if I've had any exposure in the last week or so, or I've just been playing a lot, I wrap them, just based on what hurt and what didn't hurt when/where.
