I have a Nvidia GeForce GT440 with a Windows 7 HP P6210F. I have DVI going to my main monitor and a HDMI cable going to my HDTV (Panasonic). I use it for XBMC and streaming video. However, stuff like youtube is a bit choppy playing on my HDTV. 1080P 24hz plays just fine, I only notice it on youtube....and most importantly, NFL Game Rewind/Sunday Ticket. I want to prep my stuff up for having Sunday Ticket via computer with multiple monitors, but my GPU only allows two monitors. And, when I run two NFL games in different windows at the same time, it gets choppy enough that it's not really watchable.

Is it time to upgrade my GPU? I have a max budget of around $200. I'm not really worried about computer gaming. I just want the most non-bs media related card. My card is fine for the most part, but again, with the Madden offer I've got online NFL Sunday Ticket coming my way, I want to get my computer ready for it.

It's worth noting that I can only get 30hz out of my HDTV as a secondary monitor via HDMI. Don't know if going gigantic DVI cable would fix it as I use HDMI because I run both my video & sound from that HDMI cable into my Onkyo reciever.

I currently have a GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost. It seems to get the job done for most of my games, but with my i7 4770, I feel like I could push it more. Is it even worth it to upgrade right now with about a $150-$200 budget? I'd like to think maybe I could sell my 650 Ti and get some money recouped back so it's not that financially crazy for me. But, I see some of these GTX 980 videos on youtube and I'm not really impressed. Seems they are more powerful than games can really push them right now. Is there something more sensible or should I hold on to what I have for now? I'm in no rush, I'm just curious what's out there. If I could end up spending like a net $100 and significantly end up upgrading my graphics card after selling the one I have, then that could be worth it to me.

Here's my setup:

System specs:
Processor: Intel Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz (Runs at 3.8GHz on Turbo Mode)
Motherboard: ASRock H87M Pro4 LGA 1150 Intel H87
Graphics Card: 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM (2 of them, so 16GB)
Power: SILVERSTONE ST50F-ES 500W ATX12V v2.3

I don't plan on getting anything above 1080p as far as monitors go for a while.

A good 960 can be had for $200-210 and will do you nicely if you want to keep it Nvidia. Or possibly even a second hand 970, since the whole 4gb scandal, alot of stores that are doing goodwill returns, etc. right now are selling off the returned cards as refurbished at a nice discount. Or maybe you can pick one up on ebay from someone trying to offload one. Don't be put off by the memory thing, its an amazing card for the money

960: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487091

Edit: argh beaten

Edit edit: Darkpriest, the benchmarks are already out, its about twice as good.
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/2015-vga-charts/04-Metro-Last-Light-1080p,3667.html

Echoing Darkpriest's comments though. You've got a highend system there in terms of CPU and RAM, but its matched to a mid-range GPU. Buy a 970 and you'll enjoy it for longer before going "ugh this is too slow again". The 970 is more matching in terms of lifespan of your computer.

Thanks, guys! Sounds like I need to keep an eye out for a 970 then. Those benchmarks you posted make it look like the 970 kills the 960. Here's a more basic GPU question and forgive me for asking....but when I type in GeForce GTX 970 into a place like newegg, like 30 results come up of the same card with small details being different. What do I need to watch out on that?

I've got a 650 Ti Boost in a really powerful computer I built. Am I better off spending $80 to get another 650 and SLIing them or save that $80 and apply it towards a 960 or whatever? Is there performance jump of one 900 series big enough to trump the idea of two 650 series cards?

The 960 is much more in my budget than the 970 is. Thing is, I stick to 1080p. Cause I like to shoot Steam over to my 65" plasma in my living room. Is the 970 a little overkill for just 1080p or is the 960 much more suited as the ideal 1080p card?

The 970 is prefect for 1080p, the 960 is a pretty big step down, if you can't afford to get a 970 I would aim for a 290 instead. Also remember that with a 970 you get TW3 and the new Batman game free, so work that into your calculations. At worst you can sell each of those codes for $30-$40 and save yourself $60-$80 on the 970.

I didn't even think of that. I was already gonna drop $60 on the Xbone version of Batman. But, if it's included for free...not to mention it would look better than the Xbone version (I'm assuming)...that kinda makes it more like:

GTX 960 - $180
- $80ish for selling the 650 Ti Boost
+ $60 for Arkham Knight Xbone
= $160 total

GTX 970 - $330
- $80ish for selling the 650 Ti Boost
- $30 saving on not buying Batman Xbone
- $35 selling Witcher 3
= $185 total

$25 difference. Seems I've answered my own question. Maybe I'd keep Witcher cause it's pretty..

The card posted up top is the one to get?

So, my GTX 970 used to be fine cloning my monitor to my TV set. But after some update, now it's really jumpy on both displays when they are cloned. They run fine separately. But I need to have them cloned so I can play games and have main control of my main monitor when I'm in my living room. I've tried:

- Uninstalling GeForce Experience (cause of the new game capturing stuff)
- cloning via windows instead of Nvidia
- checking my refresh rates (both set at 60 hz)
- updating graphic cards
- deleting flux
- completely removing graphics card drivers and resinstalling

Nothing helps. It seemed to do it after a certain update months ago. Anybody else have this problem? I've been trying to figure it out for months....

Could my 970 GTX MSI OC + maybe $150 get me something that's worth the upgrade to get those higher resolutions working better? Or am I better off waiting?

I really underestimated how well the 1080 would retain market value on the used market. If I'm gonna spend $400 or $450 on a card, I'd much rather spend the extra $50-$100 for the peace of mind of buying it new and not being sold a card that's either potentially broken or has a lot of tread on the tires. Now, $300 or $350? Seems more fair for $500 new.

Nope it's perfectly fine even when the 4K TV (it's used as a 3rd monitor) and the 2 1080p monitors are hooked in. It's just when I have the 1080p TV hooked into my display port (DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor > onkyo reciever > 65" TV).
