What exactly was the "hacking minigame"? Is it just Mastermind?

GUI posted:Yeah but those things like infiltrating areas boil down (in the video at least) to pressing a button and doing nothing but walking there, it's a glorified graphical showcase. The car jacking took 10 seconds and so did the 2 minigames. I think you're being a bit pedantic about this. All video games boil down to graphical showcases where you just push a button to make something happen. For a non important side mission it seemed pretty interesting.

In on this. I'm basically a whore for good open-world games these days. The finishing moves seem a bit brutal but I'm sure I'll be desensitised to them in good time.

I must admit, I preordered the game after I read about it on tf2.com, but if I had spotted it earlier, it would definitely have been on my buy list. I tried out Yakuza 4 on my friend's PS3 and loved it and this seems to have some similar stuff in it. For once, the free hats are purely a bonus instead of a major selling point. For me, anyway.

Hats are magical. The best part of The Warriors was punching people in the face which would knock their hat off, pick up the hat and wear it, and then continue to beat them while wearing their hat. The only thing I never liked about the True Crime games was the driving. I realllly hope they touched it up in the years this has been in development. Poor handling/physics can wreck a game like this, much like the True Crime games.

Man I would really like to grab this now, but I can't really justify it when I went through my gaming budget with the recent summer sale, and there are so many games I bought that I need to actually play. They've really done a great job of whetting my appetite though.

A forced stealth section?

I mean, I can sort of understand where he's coming from, but there's not a whole lot of ways to add more interaction without making things needlessly complicated. Also, holy balls, almost to the week mark!

The JC2 QTE wasn't too bad. It was very quick and only a couple button presses. For an annoying vehicle jack QTE look at Mercenaries 2.

If there were a QTE involved in the action hijack in Sleeping Dogs, you'd most likely crash before it were done if it were a 3-4 button sequence like in JC2. 1 button QTE is already pushing it.

Anything that isn't so uneventful would be a good thing. It's supposed to be an investigation, isn't it? How about puzzles instead of Press Button to Win? Unless of course, what amounts to a minute of actual gameplay (the simple minigames, the car chase) and 8 minutes of walking and driving somewhere without anything happening is a thrilling time for players. In which case there's cheaper activities you could spend your time on instead of paying u$60 for a video game, such as waiting for paint to dry or riding your bike in circles around your neighborhood.

From the way the EXP meter at the end was still at 0 I'd guess that mission was kind of like a tutorial. Maybe later missions don't explicitly tell you how to access the areas and where exactly to plant bugs and whatnot. Just a guess. Also wondering how it would play out if you hosed up and say, the nurse called security. Would it lead to a hospital based beatdown with unique MRI based takedowns? We can only hope.

Shoehorning puzzles into crime scenes didn't improve L.A. Noire. I think the police investigations are just there so you can actually get decent Police XP and a little bit of side-story. Triad XP is easy to get; just rough up some thugs in an alley. Police XP seems much easier to lose than gain in story missions, based on previous videos.
