To continue with the GBA flashcart talk from earlier, if you were going to buy one now which is the current best one to get?

I'm in the market for a GBA SP and am looking for the best to get for it.

Is DS considered retro?

I just got a RGB scart Nintendo 64 and scart Sega Genesis. What is my best bet for a scart to HDMI adapter? I was watching a youtube video and they linked to this, saying it gave great results.

Ouch. Yeah $300 - $400 is a little out of my range. I'm looking for something under $100 that still gives a nice solid image. Do you guys have a good pick at that price range?

Thanks for the link. I'll look into that for some more advice.

I actually just bought one of these and am very happy with the results. My image isn't stretched at all and looks really sharp. I'm using RGB scart with an SNES, Genesis and N64 and they all look really nice. No complaints from me.

Scored this over the weekend from my parent's basement. I had no idea this was down there for all these years.

It was pretty dirty, but I took it apart and the insides looked good. No board corrosion or blown capacitors that I could see. Looking online it looks like I need an RCA to coaxial adapter to get it working on my TV. I plugged it into an RCA port and it looked like it was sending a signal because it showed up on the input selection screen, so I'm hopeful it will work.

Came with a good amount of games too. Also 2 joysticks and 2 paddles controllers, both in great shape.

Cleaned up really nicely.

I finally get to post one of those "I can't believe this lucky score" posts. My girlfriend is a member of a local Facebook trading group. The only rule is no cash can change hands, only trading. This means that the default currency has basically become booze and subway tokens. It's a weird little ecosystem, but sometimes people post video game stuff.

Today she scored this for me.

All she had to trade for all of this was 2 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Not too shabby. The sticks are all ok. Once I clean all the crap of the carts they'll be good as new.

If anyone here has used these before for RGB gaming I'd love to hear about it.

Ikegami is a good brand, from what I understand. I think they mostly focused on the broadcasting and video production market with their CRTs, while Sony did those and also the medical display market. So long as they take RGB and sync through individual BNC connectors (and not just through a single serial digital interface plug), and its production date is from the late 1990s at the earliest, they'll probably serve you well. Definitely get a rundown of all inputs, though, to make sure they include what you want; that model doesn't seem to include S-Video as a standard input, for instance.

People suggest Sony mainly because they are decent displays and probably the most common PVM brand out there, but this doesn't mean that other brands (like Ikegami, Panasonic, and JVC) are necessarily inferior. Rather, they just existed in the shadow of Sony's dominance.

They do sound pretty nice. From the little research I've done people are comparing them to BVM quality which sounds great, but after doing some more research I found this "The 20" Ikegami's have RGB & Composite but no sound".

No sound output is kind of a deal breaker. I think I might still go check them out just in case this specific model does, but man no sound is a total bummer.

I also already have 3 PVMs (8, 14 and 29") so I don't really need to grab these, but as something a little different then just a standard Sony PVM I thought it could be a cool addition.

Keep you fingers crossed for sound when I go check them out tomorrow.

drat, I'm such a dummy sometimes. I can just use external speakers since my BNC to Scart cable has 2 RCA for audio.

For some reason that didn't click. Duh.

Kthulhu5000 posted:

I actually wouldn't consider the lack of sound output to be a deal breaker myself, considering most every PVM I've seen has rather lovely, mono-only audio. Like, it's there to make sure there's an audio signal coming through I guess, but it's kind of poo poo for gaming if you're using a console that does stereo.

Yeah for some reason it didn't click with me that I can just use external speakers, even though that's how I have one of my PVM's currently set up. For some reason when I read "no audio" it really made me think no sound at all, even though that's obviously not how that works at all.

I did go check them out and they were really cool. I didn't end up getting them though because they didn't seem to have external sync which was causing problems and both of the screens had some damage. Too bad I was hoping to add them to my collection.

On the plus side I did get to give my contact info to the recycling center guy who said he'd call if he got in any more PVMs.

He was talking about all the right websites and knew all the settings for each game in the Unibios. He was taking me through all the games and saying like "I paid $50 for this, $70 for this, $100 for this" ..etc.

My girlfriend and I were in the car trying to wrap our heads around the deal that we got and the only thing we could think of was that he was running it through composite on an HDTV and it looked like poo poo. So maybe he was off loading it because he thought it was lovely. I really have no idea.

Not sure about English manual, but here's some info on how to change the menu to English if you haven't already. Also Firmware update if yours doesn't have the latest one already installed. Just make sure you're getting the English version.
