If we're counting multiples, I have well over 30 official systems. Well over 50 if we count knock offs. I need to start trading for systems I don't have. I don't have a Sega CD, Master System, or 32x, but I have half a dozen Genesis's. It's not hoarding if it's organized and displayed.

Also, I'm ready to take the plunge into improving my video quality. Is there a way to see if my tv accept RGB over component without having to mod a system first?

Has anyone done the component mod on an SNES? is there a descent walkthrough for the various chips? All I can find is threads full of people arguing. I have 3 SNES's and access to a few more, so whatever one mods the easiest I'm pretty sure I have it or can get it.

Do you have a CRT that is standard-def only that both has component jacks and doesn't take RGB? If not, it's not really worth bothering with. If your CRT supports HD signals then it most likely has the same signal problems as LCDs and plasmas do.

The levels are a bit weak coming out of the S-ENC so you need to amp the Y-B and Y-R lines. Y itself can just be taken from the Y S-video pin on the AV connector.

The novelty of having it working is cool but you'd get the same results without having to modify the system by using an RGB to YPbPr transcoder. Unless you have a model 2, but then it doesn't do native component anyway.

I have access to a dozen hdtv's if it works on one it'll be worth it.

Your TV likely doesn't support RGB via component, but what you need to be concerned about is the TV displaying a 15KHz signal.

Do you have a PS2 (I think slim or original works)? Then hook that up via component to your TV and find some PS1 games. Many (not all) of those run at 240P@15KHz played back this way.

Finally got around to testing this. Kinda. I did learn that both of my ps2's stopped working since I last played them(thin's power supply went out, thick's disk drive)

Both had copies of Contra: Shattered Soldier in them from a Contra party I had.

Don't really need that cable anymore and should be able to use the same cable I use with my SNES. Maybe it's just me, but it did make the picture a bit more brighter than before. One of the games I tested was Gauntlet Legends which is stupid dark in the world hub area. Looked a lot better there. By the way that loving video amp is tiny as all hell. My problem is I like the odd-shaped and awkward stuff like 3DO and Saturn/Sega CD/early PS1 and I always have either too much or too little room when I put them on the shelving I have around. Has anyone found something that works really well for that kind of stuff? Any suggestions?

I use these cheap 3x3 square shelves from Wal-Mart. I have my systems on top, then games in the top cubbies, then these square fabric drawers across the bottom with the cables, controllers, and whatnot for each system. It works well for me since I don't keep any hooked up I can just grab a system, the game I want, and the matching drawer and have everything I need.

I got snowed out of work. So I decided to pull apart some SNESes. One of then had an s-enc chip so I wired it up for component out. I got "invalid format" from one of my tv's and nothing from the other. It still worked via the multi out so at least I hadn't destroyed the system. I looked back over some threads on it and it turns out that half of them have green and blue switched. That might not seen to matter, but you can pull green off of pin 7 from the multi out which I had done to avoid soldering 2 pins right next to each other on a chip. After it not working the first time I decided to just pull all three off the chip itself. SUCCESS! Of sorts. I now get "invalid format" from both my tv's.

I'm assuming this means that with a SCART cable and component transcoder I'll have the same problem.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that; your SNES may not be sending a properly formatted Y/Pb/Pr signal out in the first place. Are you sure that you aren't tapping straight RGB (which your TVs 99.9% would be unable to handle) from the chip?

The SCART-to-component transcoder takes the RGB that your SNES is already outputting from the multi-out port, and formats it to a normal Y/Pb/Pr (i.e. component) spec. So long as the component inputs on your TV aren't busted, it should work.

I'm sure it's not RGB. lots of modern TVs don't handle 240p over component. I'm just gonna have to find one that does to make sure this works then sell this sexy bitch.

I always chafe at the consensus that the Saturn failed because of bad hardware design and/or lack of 3D power. It's more that there were no "must-haves" or games that will sell an entire console. There was no real Sonic the Hedgehog game released for it. Imagine the Nintendo 64's console life with no Super Mario 64 (or Zelda:OoT, for fairness) and comparatively it looks like even Sega didn't really give a poo poo about the Saturn.

As a teen during the period that Saturn came out it didn't appeal to me or any of my friends. And we were huge Sega fans. I've only seen one or two in the wild, and I've never played one. When one of us finally got a Sega CD we played the crap out of any game we got our hands on. We cared more about 32x/SegaCD even after Saturn came out then we ever did Saturn. We skipped right from them to wanting Dreamcasts(getting N64s and Play Stations in between. The first time we split on companies). And to speak to the article posted We all desperately wanted CDXes and everyone was super jealous of my Nomad and sleeve of batteries I carried around.

Edit: that's why I had to ask for a game recommendation in this thread earlier. I only ended up with a Saturn because it was in a console lot with two 32xs and a Sega CD, and I NEED both of them. Every other system I can at least think of one game I saw in GamePro that I wanted or looked cool or something. Maybe have the box art and/or title screen in that first second with your "3 minutes of gameplay" logo at the beginning. I think you should show at least part of a boss fight in each video. That's a huge part of gameplay for me. Nothing too spoiler-y though. And deff end on a death. As for game notes you should just have a sentence or two of important bits, then have a longer write-up if you want. That way people get good info without having to click the read more. If you continue this after like a dozen videos do a spoof one of like Tetris or something.
