So it looks like there's an XML file with hidden options like the ability to toggle iron sight aiming: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=33477336 I'm not near a PC, anyone want to see what else is in there?

Loving this game so far. Runs perfectly after turning down shadows and tweaking the AA. Us PC users have had a decent run of ports, recently AND it's the first game in a while which I can play on release without using a VPN Uplay: BillyPilgrim69

Haha, I activated a radio tower and saw a huge sprawling pirate camp on the beach. I was scoping them out with my predator, when one of them screams "Oh poo poo! A loving leopard!" It then runs around the camp, killing every pirate. So I was left with a trail of dead bodies to loot, and a dead leopard to skin as I shot it through the skull once it finished. This loving game, man.

Not sure what Machete, UseRoadSignHilight or HelpCrosshair do though if someone wants to mess around with those. Maybe you can pull out a melee weapon permanently? It looks like there are some advanced graphics options as well that are broken out a bit more than in the menus so maybe things can be cranked higher or lower than in-game. Also QualityEditor="editor_ps3"?

PC players do you experience a really long load before the main menu? It takes a whole thirty seconds to get to the main menu screen where it logins in to Ubisoft. Also my copy from Simply Games came with no DLC bonuses at all

For those of us without sweet gaming PCs, are the console versions any good at all? I keep hearing people saying things, either "The framerate isn't too much of an issue, and it still looks good", or "The frame rate is so bad, you might as well just throw your Xbox into a river. Also, it looks like dog crap." Is it somewhere in the middle, like I'm guessing it is?

I have seen some screen-tearing, wierdly only in inside areas during scripted conversations, etc. etc.

It's pretty much what you'd expect from a late cycle made for PC game. It looks great (for a game running on 6-7 year old hardware) and runs kinda poorly especially when compared to the PC version. But if you can't play the PC version, the console version won't kill you or anything, you'll have a good time.

How much stuff is there to do outside of the main story missions? Just Cause 2 kept me playing it since there were so many little bases everywhere to blow up. Does this game have that as well?

gibbed posted:Machete is probably a holdover from Far Cry 2 where you set your selected Machete in Options. Yeah as far as I can tell it doesn't do anything, same with UseRoadSignHilight whatever that means. HelpCrosshair just disables the crosshair which I didn't even realize was in the regular menu. It also seems that the Autosave setting in the XML ignored as I attempted to raid a camp and when killed still spawned right outside of it. There are apparently more options according to this thread but as far as I can tell some of those are ignored or holdovers too. ShowDiamondsInMap is obviously but I thought it might be used to show boxes in this game. I thought GatherEntitiesForMap could be plants and ShowAIInMap would be enemy icons but disabling any three of those didn't seem to make a difference in-game.

Rageaholic Monkey posted:Regarding the ending: I chose to save my friends, Dennis kills Citra by mistake while trying to kill me, I leave the island with my buddies and call myself a monster but know there's still some good left in me. I didn't find it unfulfilling at all. I don't know what you guys are complaining about. It wraps up everything that my character had been trying to do in the entire game. But is there also a second ending if you join Citra? I'd imagine your friends get sacrificed or something, and you get hailed as this warrior god that reigns over the island? Did anyone get that? And if so, what happens? I thought I was going to be a badass warrior god over the Island after I killed Lisa, but then Citra kills you when you're loving her and says that the child you will have with her will rule the island.

Dan Didio posted:But yeah, it is bizzare that the very first 'tier' of weapons don't have attachments. I think this is a continuity hack. When you pick up a weapon, you get all your customizations on it. It would be a bit weird that all the guys you meet happen to have your exact customizations, so they give a first tier of weapons that can't be customized (1911, AK, SVD, etc).

This game is crazy, but I wouldn't mind if these "natives" weren't just a pastiche of tropical island native tropes, and maybe represented a real culture. I just started- do they get anymore interesting or are they pretty much a backdrop (like the civilians were in Far Cry 2)? And Jason makes me seasick in cutscenes. Keep your head oriented for a second! And I have loved this game since I saw the huge range of FOV options.

I don't know about the PC version, but on the xbox the awesome fire-spreading is almost nonexistent. There was something awesome about assaulting a base and seeing bushes and trees set on fire in FC2. Nothing of the sort has happened to me so far, even if I am chucking mollys down at them. Still, an awesome game though and I am really enjoying myself. I was walking around in the hills and saw and enemy car with two dudes chilling next to it, having a smoke. Being a shitstirrer, I threw a nade down and blew them to hell. Another dude came running out of the bushes, shooting at me, followed by 3 or 4 more. I had bitten off more than I could chew because I was low on ammo and started to run. Out of nowhere a pack of wild dogs came out and started ripping the dudes to shreds and while I watched from my position, I got smacked. Turning around, a bunch of komodo dragons had found me and fancied me for dinner. I danced around them, shanking like no tomorrow, found a jetski and got the gently caress away. haunted bong posted:For those of us without sweet gaming PCs, are the console versions any good at all? Sure the framerate isn't silky smooth but is not bad enough to distract me from the game whatsoever. It still looks really nice and runs fine.

From what I've seen, shadows look like complete garbage on the PS3. As in, they use the same rendering technique as the shadows in NES games -- solid black with screen-door dithering to simulate translucency. I've also seen figures of 20FPS in some places, which is technically playable, but it's definitely noticeable as non-smooth at that point. I don't regret cancelling my PS3 preorder, even if it means I have to turn the settings down on the PC down a bit.

Are fire arrows supposed to do gently caress all? They don't light poo poo on fire and they do less damage than normal arrows. What's the point? Also apparently this grenade I have floating in front of my hand can happen with any model in the game. Sucks to be this dude

Also, another amusing bug, if you're standing under a waterfall (so you get the "water pouring down on you" effect), and manage to get out from under the waterfall without walking (takedowns, being grabbed by an animal, etc), that water effect will remain like you have your own personal raincloud pouring down on you.

Lord Tywin posted:I thought I was going to be a badass warrior god over the Island after I killed Lisa, but then Citra kills you when you're loving her and says that the child you will have with her will rule the island. Ending spoilers: I have the feeling that the Citra ending for the saving your friend's path would be less jarring had you actually had more than 4 or 5 conversations with her before she spouts her devoted love for you. There seems to be a big gap in the plot once you get to the second island that the developers didn't quite fill in regards to your friends (who you already said good-bye to) and Citra. Still, the Citra path isn't entirely unforeseen since every conversation with her revolves around the warrior myth of the creation of the islands and how you are the greatest warrior the Rakyat have ever seen. She basically sees you as the reincarnation of the Warrior God. Dennis's unrequited love for Citra was a little ham-handed though since it only shows up in two scenes and a telephone call: Him getting extremely drunk after the first time she jumps your bones, and the save your friends ending.

I'm probably going to get this (on the 360 as I have no other option) anyway, but is there anything BAD about this game? Everything said so far seems to be positive but are there any compulsory tedious part, is stealth not working properly, is it one of those pseudo free roam games where you have a large map with few routes?
