The a+ book I'm reading says there are written essay questions. How does that work in the context of the test, I thought it was multiple choice scantron?

That's strange, the end of each chapter says there will be performance based questions so I guess I read that as "show your work". This is the sybex book. How in depth are the test questions?

I'm not asking for answers or a braindump, I just want to know if the A+ test is multiple choice or "choose as many as are correct" like the practice exams I've been doing. I'm using the CompTIA Complete Study Guide and their sample questions are kind of ridiculously in depth.

Daisy wheel printers? Come on man). I'm looking forward to finishing it and moving on to a more interesting cert as soon as possible!

I've got a 10% off discount for the CompTIA A+ exam through Pearson, but I noticed there are a lot of sites out there selling discounted vouchers as well. Are any of them legit? Where should I look to get the best discount?

Can anyone recommend a good CCNA video series to complement the book? I just hit VLSM material and I don't think the Youtube INETraining series is really helping compared to what I'm learning in Lammle's book.

Question for those who have recently taken the icnd1 and used lammles book: how much of the icnd2 portion should I be studying? Nothing in the first half has tripped me up but I don't want to run into too many gotchyas on the exam for material he seperated into the later section.

Just passed icnd1 with 854 score needed 804. Thank you for the advice and encouragement I've been given in this thread! The power went out halfway through the exam which threw me off a bit but there was nothing I wasn't prepared for on the exam.

My experience so far is the A+ and what little I've picked up from being a field tech. I know what DNS is, I know what DHCP is, I know MACs, FQDNs, and Hostnames. I really need to find a job where I get days off every week, and with how scarce junior level jobs are here, I feel like a cert might help me stand out. I just want to know how long it will take when, on average, I have less than 10 hours a week to study. I would estimate I studied 100-150 hours for the ccna and still felt overwhelmed at the massive amount of info I had to memorize.

Make sure you can explain terminology inside and out because a lot of the questions are focused on that. Every test is different but you really need to know everything. Lammle's book was great make sure you can do all the exercises and ace the end of chapter quizzes in your sleep.

I tried reading the Odom book and it was incredibly hard to understand what I was supposed to be learning. Also the end of chapter reviews and quiz things are great. Odom has some sample chapters somewhere in the depths of Cisco's website if you want to look for them and see his style. I thought lammle was great and his book had everything you needed to know and presented it very well.

I had put off doing my test for a few years because a) $400 is a lot of money when you live paycheck to paycheck and b) the nearest testing center is 300 miles away round trip. But I was offered a position that pays more than what me and my wife are making currently combined if I get the cert (plus a security clearance). I think next I'll look towards the security and network+. 300 miles? Are you in Antarctica?

Either one is fine and will cover the necessary material. Chris takes the approach of much smaller videos of 10-15 minutes while the CBT videos are usually 45-60 minutes. To be clear I am asking about the video track, not videos for the ccna. This is for video which is being retired and rolled into collab.
