Trent Copeland got 10 wickets (5 and 5) yesterday, looks like we can't depend on both Aussie batting and bowling to suck this time around. The more I think about it the less ridiculous the idea of an all-bowling Australia seems.

Oh, and gently caress the BCCI, Eng, Aus, NZ and SA should pull out and only play tests against each other.

Copeland is a really good bowler. Just been cursed with injury the last 2 or 3 seasons.

Have they changed how they're interpreting hawkeye? There's been 2 or 3 reviews where the ball is smashing the stumps and it's coming up umpires call.

Over half the ball has to be hitting the middle of the stump.

But if a couple of batsman get injured then they will need him to come in to the team. A player that has been in poo poo form and hasn't been allowed to play isn't worth keeping around as a reserve batsman, yet that's what they've decided to do.

Any fringe players they could call on are already playing some kind of county cricket.

You'd have thought by now, the Aussie cricketers would learn to perform first and mouth off later, but then they wouldn't be Aussie cricketers if they did I guess...

Starc should probably target a good line and length first.

I always found that having to quickly flick your eye-line back up to the play after checking the no-ball was where most of the difficulty of decision making came from. On top of the fact that there's no slow-mo for the umpire and feet slide around and lines get scuffed up etc.

I agree. Getting the decisions right at the other end is a lot more important than being a hawk over no-balls.

While BBL is poo poo and should be fired into the sun, the biggest problem with Aus cricket at the moment is at Grade level.

In NSW there are 20 grade teams, Victoria has 18, SA has 13 with a loving bye each week. Other than the Futures league, that is the highest level of senior cricket below the Sheffield Shield.

There's also been a drain of experienced players that have left the grade system to play in turf & country leagues.

Lets look at the Australia A squad and see if there's any batsmen worth calling up.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/squad/643349.html

Finch - pfft
Doolan - great shield season, but went quiet after BBL
Maddinson - potential opener of the future, but is not ready like Agar
S Marsh - could have made it back in the test side by now, but no discipline to put it mildly
Maxwell - bigger ego than Watson/Pietersen put together with fraction of the talent
Warner - head is messed up more than Hughes
Paine - not test standard as a batsman

Allrounders
Henriques - pipped for Ashes squad by Faulkner. Batting improving but not test standard yet
M Marsh - huge talent, but more injury prone than Watson and loves a party like his brother

Bowlers
Any of Cummins, Hazlewood, or Sayers could join the squad and not disgrace themselves
Warney loves Coulter-Nile for some reason
Sandhu has only just turned 20 and had a spectacular start to his FC career
Fawad can bowl legspin apparently

Other than that, there's a few journeymen like Klinger they could call up. They wouldn't do any better than Rogers though.
