Honestly I just focus on presenting stuff to every customer, but overall a sales rep only gets paid when the bill is increased (not as bad as it sounds), accessories (but not much there) and they changed it to where any new lines are 50% of goal, so really anything that is adding.

Either way there isn't much "I will do this for you for this sale" anymore unless it's digital life.

I'm walking in to my local att corporate store tomorrow intending to grab an s5 + gear. I'm not under contract right now. I want to get it for a discount by signing a 2 year contract, as no other company can really give a significantly better deal for my plan.

My question is how much of a chance do I have in convincing the reps in store to give me some kind of a discount on my plan or device in return for signing a contract? Would I need to say anything special or just straight up tell them I'm willing to sign a contract and ask for a discount? I figure that offering to buy the gear and maybe a case will make them want my sale even more. Would I have better luck on the phone than with a cor store?

You have literally no chance in getting a discount on a brand new device on launch day. If you're looking for a lower price check national retailers although I doubt anyone is discounting the device at this point. Also like everyone else has said the only thing that asking for a 2 year contract on the device is going to do is make the rep unhappy. Not to mention that there is no way (at least in my market) for a rep to give you any kind of monthly credit or discount. Customer care might be able to do that part for you but its not likely.

I'm on a legacy unlimited data plan on Verizon, but I'm really tired of having fuckall choice for handsets.

If I wanted to do BYOD Nexus 5 or whatever, what's the best way to go for a single line on AT&T? (My wife is currently on Sprint, but she doesn't want to change. She's a masochist or something.)

Relevant: I get a 20% discount through my employer, and I am currently paying around $77 a month with a similar discount on Verizon. Also, I'm too lazy for device flipping.

The regular data share plan is $65 without a contract for 2 GB less your discount.

Important to note that, much to my disappointment, discounts only apply to the data portion of the plan and not the device portion. So the 2gb plan for $40 + device cost is reduced to only 32 + 25 and not 32 + 20. Only a $5/mo diff for BYOD but still, surprising to me.

For just one line you might want to take a look at ATT's prepaid offering, AIO Wireless. You can get unlimited talk/text with 2.5GB data for $45 or 5GB data for $55.

Been scouring over the last few pages and have seen virtually no information on dumb phones.

I'm going on to an AT&T family plan and I'd much rather deal without all the bells and whistles and pay $15/mo instead of $40.

I've been with Verizon for the last several years and I thought the LG Cosmos was decent enough. I like having the QWERTY keyboard for texting.

Any recommendations on AT&T dumb phones? I'd even be considering to forego the QWERTY if one phone just stands that far above the rest.

It comes off the charge for the data only.

So it comes off the $100 for the 10gb.

Pretty happy right now. My bill dropped by $30 by switching to the mobile share plans from my plan I received in August. I signed a 2 year contract in January and got a smartphone (brand new customer). I paid about $140 up front to sign up and get the phone, and now I have a monthly bill of about $92 for 2GB data, unlimited messaging, and unlimited minutes. If I click through on the AT&T website and "switch" to Mobile Share Value, my bill just goes down? It says my Mobile Share plan fee goes down from $55 / month to $40 / month, and my smartphone fee goes from $40 / month to $25 / month.

That's a huge savings. Why would AT&T do this? They have a signed contract with me to pay the other price for 2 years. What's the catch? Should I do it?

Looking for some advice on what to do.

My wife and I currently have 700 minutes w/unlimited rollover, unlimited family messaging, and we each have 3GB of data to use. Our bill after the discount from her work comes in around $159.

She is due for an upgrade and what I can't figure out is will it be cheaper for us to move over to the NEXT program or just stay on the 2 year plan.

Any advice?

What's the percentage on her discount? What phone are you looking to upgrade to? If we can get the right numbers then we can see what would be best for you.

You got lucky on your timing. You signed a contract before ATT launched the new plans (new 10GB plan in February, new 1-2GB plans in march), and to keep customers ATT is allowing anyone who signed contracts before the new plans came out to get no customer pricing. So your plan would be $50 for 1GB of data or $65 for 2GB of data plus tax. Keep in mind if you upgrade in the future add the price of the phone.

None of this is true.

Uverse is the name of AT&Ts fiber based services that include TV, INTERNET , and phone. You can get internet alone and at much faster speeds than DSL. It's also ignorant to flatly say "its slower than cable" as ATT can offer upwards of 48Mb connections in some areas. Also to answer your question about hardware, att will need to provide a proprietary modem. Any sales rep in the know will waive the cost of it.

Rewiring the house isn't super common. If you have co-ax in place, they'll use that. Otherwise they might run some new network cable. I've seen both about equally.

A good installer will run a non coax line to prevent line noise and poo poo. Bad ones will hack into existing junk and you'll be calling tech support a few times til it gets fixed.

Also. Depending on your area your installer will WANT to run a dedicated line simply because the age of everything involved.

I liked Uverse a lot. Just sucks they couldn't provide 150mbps and cable could. Its a good service though.

Looks like my information is out of date. Sorry guys.

Though, I will say, I've been trying every 6 months for 5 years to get AT&T to unbundle UVerse for tenants in hundreds of apartment units, and the AT&T people I talk to either don't know how to do it, say it's not possible, or never return voice mails. They even sent a representative out to discuss it in early 2013 and he flat out told us it wasn't possible. Thus the reason why like 2% of our units have UVerse and 70% have Charter.

I stand by the slower than cable statement. I bet the overlap between places where you can get > 20mbps FTTP/FTTN ATT UVerse connections and places where you can not get faster and equivalently priced or cheaper cable connections is like less than 1% of households.

Unlike Verizon, you are not required to give up unlimited data when you upgrade. But just make sure you ask to keep it. Also, at least hear the reps out when they offer you something like a mobile share plan without unlimited data. We don't tell you to get rid of it unless you truly don't need it. Transfer of billing responsibility is the exception to this rule. That can cause you to lose your unlimited sometimes. NOTE: There are some rare instances in which an unlimited data plan must be removed to upgrade. This is usually reserved for plans which are unlimited data worldwide. First of all, that's an awesome plan. Second, your gonna lose it if you want to change phones.
