To represent the Tampa Bay Lightning we have this ridiculously 90's alternate jersey. Edit: Also we're going to draft players. Players who play hockey. Drafting hockey players is a process. If you draft a hockey player on Monday, you can also draft one on Tuesday. And you can build on that. Chairman Wao fucked around with this message at 23:05 on Apr 9, 2013 |

Give me a bit of time to contemplate and debate with my co-GM.

With the 26th pick overall in the 2013 SAS NHL draft the Tampa Bay Lightning select... Evander Kane! Cap Hit: $5,250,000 Contract length: 6 years He's putting up comparable numbers to players with far better supporting casts, while being younger and the sort of player one can build a franchise around. It feels like a somewhat risky pick, but this organization has deemed him the future and savior of hockey in Tampa Bay, in the hopes we can attract our own fans to drive away those pasty Habs fans who invade. Definitely a good core piece to build around. Plus he scores goals and broke Matt Cooke's big dumb face. I thought he was a LW though. Yeah, there was a lot of debate going on internally and externally with my roommate/co-GM. I kind of made the executive decision though. He's just coming into his own and I feel like he's only getting better. Edit: Yeah, you're right, left wing. Dunno why I thought center. Derp on my part. And Logan Couture was one of the guys heavily in the mix for me. Kane was just so much younger. With a lot less around him while still producing.

With the fourth pick in the second round, the Tampa Bay Lightning will select... Kari Lehtonen. Age: 29 Cap hit: $3,550,000 for 2012-2013, up to $5,900,000 the following season. Contract length: 2017-2018 This was a fairly agonizing pick, trying to decide what direction to go, considering how many great players are on the board, but we had to take into consideration that we wouldn't be picking again until the late third round, and realize that a goaltender is a very important part of the team night in and night out. And Kari, while not the statistically best goaltender out there, comes at a price we like, while having size, and fundamentals, making him a good long term solution. He's not the sort of goaltender who relies on his atheletics to get him by, and we're excited to see what he can do with the defense we put in front of him. Edit: I feel like I'm going to take a lot of grief for this pick. Chairman Wao fucked around with this message at 00:46 on Apr 13, 2013 |

And like I said, I don't pick again until the late third round. I feel a lot better having my starting goalie situation solved now. With the fourth pick the Tampa Bay Lightning opt to continue some strange Atlanta Thrashers Reunion Tour and select Bryan Little. Position: C,RW Age: 25 Cap hit: $2,383,333 through 2012-2013 The Lightning organization decided it was probably prudent to select someone who might be a better option at center than Jeff Skinner, as well it would probably be a good idea to draft a guy who is right handed, while decided Kari has done just fine with the flimsiest of defenses for years anyways. Little is a fairly young guy whose production has been on the rise, which is always a positive, outside of this truncated season, which is more an anomaly than anything, really. Edit: Just when Kane and Little think they've escaped this division, I pull them right back in. Chairman Wao fucked around with this message at 18:33 on Apr 18, 2013 |

It real life pains me a little to do this but... With our 5th round pick the Tampa Bay Lightning figure we need a defenseman. Despite picking up a goalie who has proven he can do well enough without. What's that? We should get an offensive defenseman? Brilliant! You're on your own Kari! Seen here trying to hit someone. Or presenting. It's hard to tell. Alex Goligoski Position: D Contract: 4 years Cap hit: $4.8 million Does he look befuddled in his own zone occasionally? Sure. But given the tools we believe he can produce in the offensive end and help out this young front line we've put together. Hopefully we'll be able to anchor him with someone we trust more defensively to cover up some of those shortcomings. Watching him play in Dallas can be painful at times, but I think he's actually a good player in the right environment.

With our 7th round pick and what feels like it just might be the millionth overall the Tampa Bay Lightning select... Kyle Okposo Age: 25 Position: RW Cap hit: $2,800,000 through 2015-2016 I decided to keep the team young with this pick, almost going with another player, but deciding he'd probably already peaked. We needed a right winger, and while he might not be a top level talent now, we're hoping he can figure it out in the next year or two. E: Sorry I just staggered in from work, I'm kinda tired. I'll give a more in depth explanation later. Probably.
