Someone unironically shared this on my feed earlier. I'm also getting a lot of gory images with made up stories attached, like the one about the "8-year-old girl" above. The images are horrible to see, of course, but the stories people made up just to get shares and retweets are pretty awful in a different way.

A friend of mine posted this: quote:Facebook: The new non stop never ending policitcal & religious parade/billboard/soap box. There are several people I deeply want to block from my feed because I am just so over it but can't/won't for various reasons. Yes, some points/views are valid. Yes, we get that the govenrment sucks monkey balls. Yes, clearly you are religious and think the world would be a better place if everyone was as holy as you. But you send your propaganda out (yes, propaganda, look it up) in a non stop stream forever barraging anyone you have friended with it. Not only does it lose its potency after the first few repetitions, it quickly gets annoying and then has quite the opposite effect of what you were hoping for. You aren't exacting any change aside from pissing your acquaintences off. Go picket your statehouse. Write strongly worded letters to your congressman. Do something useful. Your pictures/quotes/banners are not making a difference. To create change you must act. Cascading your opinions on Facebook in a non stop gusher ain't doing it. This is a pointless rant. I am aware. But I feel better now. LOL. and followed it up a few days later with this doozy:

The past month he's been posting nothing but Sandy Hook hoax videos/macros so I shouldn't be surprised that this is happening: "I've seen too much truth..." Reads like he's a Lovecraftian cultist, rambling on about the "true nature of the world" and "the reality beyond our gaze". He's also a loving moron, and should be ashamed of himself for pointing fingers at government boogie-men and looking for some "big bad entity" to blame, instead of expressing empathy and sorrow for the people affected by this tragedy. For more in the vein of morons who should be ashamed: Fact 1: This delightful fellow's facebook posts consist of three states: Either complaining about his job (acceptable, he works at a gamestop which I hear is not fun), gracing us with his lovely view on women (seen above), or shameless -worthy drunkposting. Fact 2: You may have noticed he's shared a link from a page called "gently caress my Ex". His only ex is insane, not in modern use of "annoying" or "controlling", but literally insane as in "suffers from advanced psychosis". She was recently released from a mental institution. I also want to mention that she's actually a really nice and eager person, and has been trying very hard to seek help for her problem. To that end, I find it pretty despicable that he sees a page entitled "gently caress my Ex" and says "Yup! That sums up my feelings exactly." Fact 3: He recently expressed the viewpoint that women who wear low-cut shirts have no right to complain when creepy dudes ogle them. I don't have that gem saved for posterity, and he deleted the status after it blew up, but what the gently caress?

Orange_Lazarus posted:Also apparently people are having the nerve to mention that bombings happen all the time in the rest of the world. I don't see anything wrong with that since we (at least most Americans I observe) tend to have a history of "gently caress the rest of the world". Telling someone they shouldn't grieve is dead wrong though. C'mon, don't bring that discussion in here.

You're right. I just wish Americans would think of global tragedies as national tragedies as well but it's hard not to respond to the jingoism.

Every Arpaio-related argument I've ever seen kind of stalls because being appalled by his behavior first requires acknowledging that criminals (both accused and convicted) are human beings with basic rights. And that simply being arrested for a crime doesn't automatically mean being guilty.

I sometimes accidentally type like this when I'm typing on my phone - the screen is quite small and I have stupid fingers so sometimes I'll hit the period instead of the space since they're right next to each other, and sometimes I just don't notice it before I hit send. This person probably has that happen to them, but with the added bonus of being too lazy to correct it.

Red is the guy from earlier that got a job in the banking industry and went into FYGM mode. Blue is another Army buddy who had a political "awakening" during the 2008 election and became a Paulbot, sliding into crazy Alex Jones territory.
