It may be wrong to factor in Duffy's personal appearance when discussing his transgressions. But it's almost unavoidable. His plump, pink, serene aspect makes him look like nothing so much as a giant baby who has grown fat suckling at the public teat, and his evident lack of remorse reinforces the impression. That's completely unfair, of course. Chalk it up as just one more way Extra Whitey has been made to suffer lately.

The last 4 summers I used to buy lunch every week at this dirty old shawarma/donair hovel wedged between the Delta Hotel and the Morris J. Wosk Centre For Dialogue At SFU's Harbour Centre Campus™. It was run by this old Greek guy and he served the best goddamn chicken in the downtown core, if not the whole city.

I was dismayed last week to discover it's been replaced by a much cleaner, but massively inferior corporate franchise which serves lightly seasoned rubbery bland mystery meat out of a big metal steamer. Instead of the delicious crispy morsels of goodness shaved off a vertical spit that are promised by the word "shawarma". I hate what this city is becoming :smith:

That article doesn't really seem to be anything like how you describe. At least on the part that's on the website, everything seems to be 'men doing more, women still doing most, people hate laundry, doing chores helps you get along with your spouse (regardless of gender)', without any judgmental statements at all. Unless I'm missing something.
The "final frontier" for the feminist movement is not rape culture, nor violence against women, nor the patriarchy that continues to run rampant in our most powerful institutions. (See the numerous women who spoke out about sexual harassment in the RCMP last year, which led to absolutely nothing because the RCMP is an untouchable gang of fuckheads.)

Nope, the final frontier is the division of household chores traditionally done by women. Thanks for this cutting insight, G&M editorial.

CRTC actually does something useful for a change.

The CRTC posted:

The CRTC’s Wireless Code comes into effect on 2 December 2013. The Wireless Code establishes basic rights for all wireless consumers and puts new requirements on service providers. The Wireless Code significantly limits cancellation fees and requires your service provider to unlock phones, to offer a trial period for wireless contracts, and to set default caps on data charges to help you avoid bill shock.

Do you pay a bill after you use your wireless service? If so, you use postpaid services, and you have the right

- to cancel your contract at no cost after a maximum of two years
- to cancel your contract and return your phone at no cost, within 15 days and specific usage limits, if you are unhappy with your service
- to have your phone unlocked after 90 days, or immediately if you paid in full for your phone
- to have your service suspended at no cost if your phone is lost or stolen
- to receive a Critical Information Summary, which explains your contract in under two pages
- to receive a notification when you are roaming in a different country, telling you what the rates are for voice services, text messages, and data usage
- to limit your data overage charges to $50 a month and your data roaming charges to $100 a month
- to pay no extra charges for a service described as “unlimited”
- to refuse a change to the key terms and conditions of your contract, including the services in your contract, the price for those services, and the duration of your contract

Is this the end of three-year contracts? How will the telcos survive? Why does the CRTC hate job creators :ohdear:

But if what you assert is what you have logically concluded you are misinformed at best and foolish at worst.

Hint: the fact that it is mandated is the issue. Obviously a company should have different strategies for different reasons its the nitpicking that causes companies to become spiteful and then leave/rollback expansion along with the jobs they create.
Cities and provinces and countries can and should mandate whatever limitations or requirements on business they consider desirable, because they exist to balance various competing priorities which can include anything from aesthetics and culture to worker rights and consumer safety. They should not discard those priorities to accomodate the bottom line of multibillion dollar corporations which, if left to their own devices, would pay no regard to these things whatsoever.

If there's an arbitrary level of demand for coffee and food in a particular town and tim hortons doesn't have a store there to meet the demand then someone else can always open a coffee shop and "create jobs". While they're at it, maybe they can use signage and decor that integrates with the surrounding environment in a way that isn't totally jarring and pays some regard to aesthetics and local culture

We are fully two years away from an election. I have absolute faith in their campaign machine which is largely dormant at the moment. Once that gets in gear, all this stuff about Harper losing control over his minions will evaporate overnight.

Also literally nobody cares about this poo poo except political nerds and Ottawa people so I really doubt votes will flip in sufficient numbers to prevent another Conservative win. Moderate, evenhanded Harper is still clearly the best hope to keep socialists and kebekkers out of the PMO and keep taxes low and jobs and prosperity flowing.

But they still have the most sophisticated campaign machine, the cooperation of the RCMP and other authoritarian forces, the backing of 'free enterprisers' like the Kochs, a largely pliant (if not sycophantic) media and an enormous budget. Not to mention all the advantages that come with incumbency. The Liberals are apparently resurgent, but only just enough to gently caress the NDP up. I will be absolutely shocked if they're even able to regain opposition status, let alone form a government. I'm inclined to temper my optimism because we are still a very long ways out from the next election.
