Unlike on some shows where writers decide an ending when working on the final season, Dexter’s fate arc has been planned for years, and producers are unusually confident their show will have an ending will satisfy fans. “It feels like the exact ending we should be doing,” says showrunner Scott Buck. “Ideally it will make our audience sit back and see Dexter a little more clearly than before. It should absolutely make sense to everybody watching it.”
Or as executive producer Sara Colleton bluntly puts it: “It won’t feel like a ‘What the gently caress?’.. We know we have the right ending, we just have to execute it correctly. There’s no emotional investments that aren’t going to be resolved.”

So um.... jeez. I always wondered where the Code came from, and how it was built. We finally get to loving see. And Deb quit her job? She's a private dick? This is going to be great. I really want that Deb spinoff. June 30th, people! Five days. :yosbutt:

:neckbeard:
"[Pause] I’d acknowledge that they exist, but I wouldn’t [reveal] them."

"One thing I’ve always felt is the character needn’t be bound by his voice-over. I’ve always thought that he wasn’t the most reliable narrator. There might be some voice-over beyond the voice-over that we don’t hear."
"But something that’s always existed in him is an appetite for rebellion. So if he’s told he can’t be somebody, he’s going to want to defy that diagnosis — to his and many people in his world’s peril."

Certainly explains his violent response to "You can't be a killer and a hero, it doesn't work that way."

aaaaaaaaaa
No seriously. You will get spoiled on this. I read the entire drat thing.

quote:

i always feel better after reading interviews with Sara Colleton

http://www.dexterdaily.com/2013/06/executive-producer-sara-colletonits.html
"We did something very unusual that we've never done before. After the scene was essentially finished, we let the cameras roll. And it was in that moment that Debra runs to Laguerta, that was not scripted. To me that was the most overpowering moment. Difficult to watch."

Can and should Deb and Dexter both survive:speculate:?
That's such a loaded question, yes they both should survive but we have a very involved season ahead of us so it's not something to anticipate at this moment.

I had wondered actually, specifically, when they knew exactly how they would end it....
How long have you know what the final scene is? Have you written it?
For two years. [Showrunner] Scott Buck and [EP] Manny Coto are writing that last script. We have it all beaten out and we know what it's going to be and we've known it for a long time. Hopefully it will be satisfying and give some people something to think about with this eight-year journey Dexter has taken and what he's explored and what he's tried to do and what he's tried to become. Hopefully it will resonate with some insight for our audience. We all know that no matter what we do there are going to be a lot of people who are unhappy with it. We're trying to not think about that and just think of what everyone who has been on the show from the beginning feels is right and that's all we can do. No matter what we do we'll still be excoriated.

Article also goes into more detail about what Dr Vogel will be doing this season. We get a mention of the Brain Surgeon. Also in that artcle; "We've given up the idea of the big bad as a character." It's as if they can read my mind! They finally did it!

Really explains the fantastic powerhouse performance we can get glimpses of in the trailers.. drat. She's so good! She better keep getting work..

Here's a few random thoughts about Dr. Vogel. Somehow Dexter was brought to her attention, we know that. Could it be that Vogel firsthand saw the propensity for violence in Dexter, or learned about it from one of his psych charts? Harry better not have sought her out, BUT, since this is Harry we're talking about.... And for some odd reason (being so self-aware and egotistical, or by choice as her ultimate design?) decided to, by proxy, form him into her own monster. An improved version of herself, or previous psych experiments? I want to cast Dexter, right now, as a carefully designed version of Vogel, whether or not she's the Brain Surgeon.. I'm about %80 there, only slightly hesitant since we only just saw the premiere, after all.
I will slap an executive if there turns out to be more than one Dexter that Dexter gets to keep Dextering long after the finale of Dexter. And the people she's presumably killing and melonballing better not be failed versions of Dexter. I say Harry better not, and she better not, all because I know those ideas can't have justice done to them by this writing team, as they've shown for the past few seasons. I still have high hopes for the rest of the storyline, because I'm insane and a sociopath and there's not much anyone can do for me.
Vogel joined her profession because of ... what she is? Possibly? So she's back around since of course she has plans for Dexter, did she always plan on checking up on him though? Or did the Ice Truck Killer and the 'Butcher' bring him back onto her radar, making him worthy for the elaborate tableaux and kills she has planned for him?

But seriously, I'd done a ton of research on ASPD/BPD (personal interest) and whatnot, and there was a psych/doctor that had spent his entire life working with and treating 'sociopaths.'
