Someone asked earlier how this game compared to the first Payday and the best and most succinct way I could describe it is that Payday 2 makes Payday 1 seem like a proof of concept. Really, Payday 2 improves on every single aspect of Payday 1 and adds much more depth.

The ability to bag corpses looks pretty good for stealth, but if you have a full and competent crew, it's unnecessary. As soon as I learned about stealth and the ghost class, I knew instantly that I would be a ghost, but sadly, the ghost tree is really, really underwhelming. Now I'm mastermind with a few ghost skills. The mastermind it better at stealthing than the ghost.

Protip: Current version of the full game is a buggy piece of poo poo frequently crashing after heists, RIGHT before it saves your progress. It's advised you wait for a patch before playing unless you don't mind losing a bunch of progress.

Also, look forward to hostages randomly running into your gunfire and ending up with less money than you started with. Yes, they never did do anything about that.

edit: Liberatores screenshot above shows it pretty well.

Those lines are a result of a stylistic choice for the visuals known as "chromatic aberration". It looks weird at first because it's extremely rarely done in games outside of fan made injectors but I personally really like it. It gives the game a really vivid, authentic visual style.

After playing beta a lot and playing release up to lvl 30 I have only once run into a lovely team of pubbies. Every other match has straight up been friendly, competent and fun. And even mostly use mics! (I also play exclusively on Overkill or very Hard)

I have to assume there's quite a bit of hyperbole and elitism in the "gently caress pubbies, Goon superiority" posts, but then again it could be a reporting bias and the vast majority are getting good pubbies and don't have reason to complain?

I dunno, I don't seem to see a huge problem that others are saying there is, but I tend to find the "pubbie problem" is usually greatly exaggerated anyway - there's no reason to believe that being able to spend $10 on a forum account makes someone a more competent player anyway.

To anyone who's missed it or is just starting out: Overkill Ukraine is by a mile the best thing you can do for XP and money. Once you get a Tech up to Shaped Charges, you can do a run in 40 seconds (35 if you're fast), it's soloable and you get 80-90k cash and 20k-25k experience per run.

This is most definitely true. A lot of people don't like "grinding" the same missions, but this is hands down the best way to level and a great way to earn some cash. Even if you just run in and drill the safe, it's extremely easy to hunker down and escape with the loot, since you don't have to go back and forth for bags. I'd be kind of surprised if they don't do something to make it harder, cause it downright trivializes early leveling.

If they released the game before it was complete (and it seems that is the case, at least to some extent) it was probably a wise move, actually. If they hadn't gotten it out pretty soon, it would have been eclipsed by Saints Row, GTA V, New console launches, Watchdogs and any number of big name and small name releases between now and the end of the year. In another week, gaming is gonna start getting VERY busy again, and honestly, the game's fun as hell in its current state and it's kind good they'll be adding content gradually. It will make it harder to burn out or to "see everything" and get bored.

I think they should up the droprate of mask stuff.

I already have every gun I'll ever want to use and almost all of them are fully upgraded. I also have all the skills I want. Now I just hoard cash and wait for something that looks decent on a mask or a new mask design. The problem is that most mask designs look like poo poo. I'm still running with the default masks cause it's so rare to find anything for masks at all.

I also feel like the cash to exp is poorly balanced. At one point I remember having 13 skill points and not enough cash to hit the next tier of the tree, and this was before I had bought a single weapon.

Edit: New update just started downloading on Steam.

Up until now I've had virtually nothing but good times with pubbies but today everything seems to have gone to poo poo.

If you're not running 40s Ukraine OK people either leave or get really lovely with you. I had the audacity to start a Watchdogs run and two people left the game. The Ukraine runs are also making it really hard to tell if that lvl 50 dude can actually do anything effectively besides grab some jewelry and run. Once I finally did have a group for Watchdogs everyone was constantly running into fire and dying while one of them chastised everyone for being poo poo, despite the fact that he was the guy who was impatient and kept running straight into everything.

Everything was so great up until now. I'm really struggling to get a competent group together.

E: I should add that none of that Watchdogs group would ready uo until I bought the sniper asset. They still all died and failed the mission. It's normally a cakewalk with a competent group.

Good luck using the MM skill to yell at someone to help them up if there is any enemies even in the rough vicinity. All you do is yell at everyone to surrender and there isn't a drat thing you can do to help your buddy.

It's not that much of a waste; the idea behind Dominator is that it's used either to stealth guards before a heist or to get emergency hostages once you're busted. It has amazing utility, so please don't write it off as some lovely fluke skill you wish you hadn't taken--your teammates who end up in custody will be so happy you did on those no-civvie jobs like Rats.

I was referring to the "yell-to-help-up" skill. It's pretty useless unless there's no enemies near the downed guy and if that's the case, you can just help him up anyway.

I've found that quite a few mastermind perks are nowhere near as good as they sound on paper. They could be fixed but as it is a few of them actually conflict with each other in practice. As such I'm planning on respeccing to enforcer. Seems to be the class most immune to lovely teammates anyway.

On paper, Combat Medic sounds bad. A 15% boost is practically nothing, especially when a Mastermind has ample supply of doctor bags and instant revives.

But what other skills are you referring to, exactly? Mastermind is pretty much the one skill tree that is almost universally good. Obviously Black Marketeer is a waste of points since money becomes meaningless long before you can even get it, and Inside Man seems to only affect one heist, but it's hard to find bad skills in the tree otherwise. Certainly harder than Enforcer, Technician or Ghost.

Specifically, domination conflicts in the worst way with the skill to yell at your buddies to help them up. Most of the time you'll yell at enemies not even near him to surrender while he lays there and you get shot. The skill to revive yourself with a pistol kill I have found rarely useful since by the time I can start shooting while I'm downed people have killed all nearby enemies. I have a few more gripes but I'm not home and would have to look at the skill tree to see. I do know that the first two tiers have some useful stuff but the same goes for other classes and many of those skills are must have for everyone.

E: 2 days ago I would have agreed with you about it being the best tree, easily, but after being so disappointed with the top tier skills and growing tired of stealth so fast, you can see why I'm considering enforcer and a few early tiers of everything else. Like I said though, the problems I have are fixable.

I agree. Once I'm capped I think I'll be enforcer and tech. I temporarily went tech for a while and C4 and mines are incredibly useful. They make bulldozers and shields look like a joke if you know what you're doing.

As for my problems with the various revival skills, I've found that with a good team I don't even need to lay down a medkit let alone help someone up, so that's another reason to bail on mastermind. If I run into a lovely team I'll quit. Better than struggling through a lovely build that costs a whole bunch of points in top tier.

Well, I specced from mastermind to enforcer and I'm running with two shotguns or saw/shotgun and it's incredible. I doubt I'll ever go back. Once I have enough points I'll go for tech C4 and armour bonus. All said, it should be a great all-purpose build with the bonus of being good for speedruns as well.

Edit: Actually, if you're not interested in stealth at all, and you grab some of the lower perks out of the other trees, I can't think of a better build.

^^^I have a feeling Overkill will be addressing this with new difficulty levels and maybe specific high level heists. Especially because people begin to find Overkill difficulty really easy with a good team in the mid 30's and many people are already asking for harder difficulties. They have to be aware of how slow going it is at higher levels. It makes vanilla WoW look like a speedrun.

I have to believe that Overkill is gonna do something about the super-obtuse "Crimenet" mission delivery system. It seems that the vast majority of people are sick and tired of it, and whenever I stop a session of Payday 2 it's usually not because I've had enough of the game, but because I just can't be hosed sifting through the mess. Even if you find a heist you feel like doing which is kind of rare, there's still no guarantee it's overkill (the only difficulty worth doing after lvl 30-35) and that you won't just hang at the connecting screen for 30s - a minute before it either tells you the game is full or you timed out.

It's just a whole lot of uncertainties and bullshit layered on top of each other. I get that you're trying to get people to diversify, but I still see mostly pro Ukrainian overkill missions, and frankly, I'm sick of sitting in a lobby after a heist while the host spends the next five minutes trying to find a rushable heist (the irony) while repeatedly cursing in chat cause the game won't give him what he wants. Fact is people are still gonna grind these heists, and it just makes it frustrating for the people who wanna play the game.

There is always the smartarse who chimes in right about here and says "host your own game lol", which would be great if it weren't for the fact that hosting is also hit and miss for some people. For whatever reason sometimes no-one will join your game after waiting for even 5 - 10 mins.

Crimenet is just poorly thought out and broken. You can see what they were trying to do, but for the most part, it's a failure.

So, I think we can all agree that it's highly likely that we'll see a casino heist somewhere down the line, right?

This strikes me as a pretty ripe opportunity to address two fairly common gripes people have with the game: no cash sinks and the grindy card system. What I'm thinking is that in casing mode during the casino heist, players would be able to play the slots. There are only three symbols, those being the three different cards you see on the payday screen after a mission. You put your cash into the slot machine, spin, and if you get three of a card it generates a drop, the same way it does after a heist.

Edit: or have said slot machine be an upgrade for the safe house.

Has anyone tried to troll Ukranian Job runs? Spec for C4 and then plant it all on the street, saying it's 'for when the cops come'.

How about this? Run with a group for a while, and while the C4 guy is doing his thing, grab a bag of jewelry and throw it on the street, then go back in for the second one and throw it on the street too. After a while, one of the guys will learn that he is supposed to take the bags off the street and put them in the van and you'll notice he waits for the bags in the street every time.

Once you've established that pattern and have done it a good number of times so he takes everything for granted, it's time to change it up.

As soon as the job starts, run into the store like you usually do but kill a couple of people and bag up a body. Throw it out onto the street then go back and bag up the other one, throw that on the street too. By this time the safe should be blown. Go back to the van and wait like nothing has changed.

Edit: Another one is this: Just do the Ukranian run normally right up until the end. Make sure you're the last one out of the store. Once everyone is in the escape zone, run up against the back of the van (it isn't counted as the escape zone) hit "t" and type "How do I get in the van???". Time it right so you get enough time to hear people rage over mic or text. It shouldn't be long before the van then leaves. I should mention I didn't make this one up, it happened to me last Friday night. I really hope the guy was trolling, but I've seen some pretty stupid people in this game.
