One of the best of the alternate universes is G Gundam, which I think I'm biased towards since it was like the first Gundam I saw, on Toonami back in the day. Featuring ridiculous hot-blooded giant robot fights in the decaying ruins of the Earth for no good reason! Like, in-universe either, the reason is kind of crap!
