richardfun posted:Didn't Viggo Mortensen also give him Aragorn's sword? Back before the Colbert Show Viggo was on the Daily Show and Jon played an audio clip of Steve reciting Aragorn's lineage all the way back to Isildur. In response Viggo gave him a chocolate version of the entire fellowship.

Dalael posted:I wasn't aware that Colbert was such a Lord of the Ring fan. I just saw the two clips of him schooling James Franco, and it was brutal. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure he's publicly nerded out over Tolkien stuff since his days on The Daily Show.

My favourite instance of Colbert geeking out over LotR is when he showed CNN on the difference between a balrog and Satan.

I am also pretty sure when he shows nerdy pictures of himself he is wearing the LOTR crown.

Dalael posted:I am strongly considering re-watching all Colbert report and am wondering if it would be just as good as it was the first time, even if the events he talks about are no longer current. I have missed so many episodes over the years, and I would kinda like to catch up. I watched all of them up to his Iraq trip (because that was when I started watching the show) a few years back. It's a serious time investment and the website can be problematic whenever they change anything. But yeah, still very funny.

Guess I'll go attempt to populate the new thread when I get around to watching. What's filling Colbert's former slot in the meantime?
