I've heard that in Russia, gift-giving is important. What might be a gift that you would give someone? I've heard flowers are important over there also. In the USA, the only time I can think of getting flowers is a man buying them for his wife or girlfriend (once or twice a year). And weddings/funerals.

One moment: "другова" is not mistake. Yesenin wrote the poetry in 1922. Rules of Russian orthography were written in 1956. Hi utjkju I'm doing a research project on independent English learners starting in January. Can I send it to you? It will be pretty short and simple: choosing activities you like for practising English from a list, probably about 5-10 minutes. You can choose to answer more questions by email, if you want. I have been reading your thread for a while and thought you would be an interesting person to ask but then you went away! I would appreciate your help. Could you please send me a mail at -------? Then I will contact you from my professional address when the survey is ready. Thanks! greazeball fucked around with this message at 10:38 on Dec 8, 2014 |

In Russia when the person tells "thanks" for simple work, people answer: "Не за что". It is the polite answer. But I don't know as this answer to translate into English.

utjkju posted:Ok. A quick Google translate renders that as "not at all," which is a perfectly valid response to a "thank you" in English. English speakers say, "no problem," "it's nothing," and other similar phrases in response to thanks. In Spanish, you might say, "de nada," which translates roughly as "it's nothing." French has "de rien," which also pretty much means "nothing," or "it's/from nothing." Edit: Neat thread, by the way. What types and speeds of internet are available where you are, and how much do they cost?

The telecom companies say this is because Canada is such a large country, so it's very expensive to connect everything. If Internet in Russia is so inexpensive, obviously they are lying to us.
