Add me to the first game injury list - my GK went off after 26 mins, and the sub conceded the first three shots on his goal...

Would have started my Serie Goon career with an away win otherwise.

I don't and my keeper went of at around 20 min. I don't think the other team got a shot on goal so it didn't matter, but my keeper is the best player on my team.

Tactics Chat

If you have a GK who is good in the air would it make sense to set your defensive tactics to tighten the center (or tighten wings if your player was good at standing in the right place)? I'm wondering if the skill itself provides enough of a bonus to be worth subjecting your GK to seeing more shots since the individual chance of a goal is less on each shot. This is all assuming there's nothing on the enemy squad like powerful shooter or good header etc.

I've never done this and would be inclined to think it's not enough of a benefit to risk the extra shots on net but wanted to see what you guys thought.

I've seen some teams in other leagues stack their defenders with the "good header" SQ and then they'd always tighten the center. It makes sense, their goals against stat seemed pretty even across the board. But I don't think it's a good idea if you're just banking on your GK's SQ. I would suggest taking your opponent's MF/FW's SQs into account, if they have a lot of guys who are fast or powerful shots then it might be a good idea to tighten the center, if they have a lot of good headers then obviously it would not be such a good idea.

Train on Sunday for general upkeep of players whose form has fallen. Train injured players as soon as they are injured.

There is a press release generator out there, and I hate the drat thing. Takes personality away from the game, how can you develop any rivalry when the other teams are just robots spitting out soundbites.

I don't mind if people copy the basic structure of pressers as long as they put some personality into it. It's not hard!

In the other league I play in the presser quality is amazing so coming back to Goon League can be disappointing in that regard.

Had a decent start to the season thankfully, seeing my team so low on all those lists posted before (thanks for that btw) made me want to turn it around.

Referee handed out 7 cards between the two teams in my game, prick. Speaking of dumb records, what's the highest score you've seen in an XP11 game? In my other league the highest I can remember was either 8-0 or 9-0 but I've never seen anyone break 10.

I've been thinking lately about formations, mainly how little I play around with them. It's always 4-5-1, 3-5-2 or the ever so daring 5-4-1 if I really want to stonewall. Has anyone built their team around a less midfield heavy formation?

I'd say 3-5-2/4-4-2/4-5-1 would be the most common but I'm sure if you had the right players for it nearly anything would work. Anyone in Serie Goon predominantly use a 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 or something?

The only one that I couldn't see working would be the 4-2-4. Just seems like with the majority playing at least 4 in the midfield even with long balls you'd struggle. It'd be fun to try against someone who plays with 3 defenders a lot, just to see.

My record so far is 0-4, 0-6, 1-5, 1-4.

Am I doing something very wrong or is there just a giant disparity in team/player skill going on?

(it will be me)

Rapner, your team is ridiculously young. There's an 'average age' thing on the tactics screen for offense, defense, and the team; I've been told that the 'sweet spot' for this number should be around 25. Too low and your team is just too young and inexperienced to keep up, and you've got a whole lot of 18 and 19 year olds in there.

Looking at your last match against my old nemesis FC Lamentaire, the one glaring error I can see is that you had Offside Traps on with a referee whose Skill rating is only 2; such a ref won't notice the offsides and so the other team will get more scoring opportunities.

Oh poo poo sorry yeah I'm the last people you played. Ugh. I dunno that last one is a bad combination of being against a team with over 5 times your team value and just generally inexperience when it comes to how to respond to refs.

This is how I usually go:

Ref Skill:

1-3: Cheating

4-6: Cheating if you have players who are good at cheating.

7-10: Offside Traps

Ref Harshness:

1-3: Bruise if you really want to risk getting soaped when you injure someone's player

4-7: Normal

8-10: Careful

e: When you're playing teams with way better players than yours (half of the teams in our div), put like 5 people on defense, set your formation to defensive or very defensive, "long balls" tactic typically, and mark their best MF with intelligence or their outstanding ridiculously strong forward if one exists.

You should always set SOME kind of win bonus with very few exceptions. This works for you even if you are probably going to lose since your players will play much better and will lose by maybe a goal or two instead of 4 or more. The better play will help their form, especially if it results in a goal or assist. So yeah if you're playing a team in our division with a record of like 4/0 so far you're pretty much safe to put a win bonus of like 600k or more and you won't have to pay it because they'll still beat you a bit.

Your side is just insanely young across the board (as mentioned above). I'd grab a couple of cheap 30/7s-32/8s to fill gaps and get your average age up a bit.

I'd try to stonewall as well - whenever I've been dealt a poor team it seems to affect form less and you won't get belted as badly. You definitely need to boost your defense so I'd make that your first priority so you can play 5 at the back if you need to. I'd consider offloading one of those 19/5s and seeing if you can scoop up a 21-22 year old on the transfer market too. Having three 19 year olds and an 18 year old in defense is always going to be tough.

In short: get a couple of stopgap defenders and play much more defensively for the time being. I'd also consider playing long balls fairly often until you get a stronger midfield.

I'm not an expert but I got dealt a very similar team in another league that had an absentee manager beforehand, I managed to get them from dead last to the middle of the table with a few pickups and forcing draws.
