The NHL always uses 8 EST as a start time, even when they had Vancouver in the finals. More of the population lives in the east in both countries, it really makes sense that you aren't having the games end at midnight for them.

Also game 2 is starting at that time because for once the horses are a lead-in to hockey and not the other way around

e: And this is why NY-LA isn't what the NHL really wanted

NBC executives have reason to mourn the Blackhawks' Game 7 loss to the Kings.

Although a Rangers-Kings matchup will deliver to the network the nation's two largest TV markets, there can be no denying that the Blackhawks' loss will deny them the league's most avid fan base.

The proof is in the Game 7 numbers. According to NBC Sports Network, which televised the game, the Kings' 5-4 overtime win earned record ratings in both markets. But while Los Angeles produced a pedestrian 4.8 rating, Chicago delivered a whopping 22.7 figure, which translates to more than 800,000 homes.

That's a number even New York can't match. The Rangers, who punched a ticket to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1994 last week by beating the Canadiens, earned an 8.5 rating for their Game 6 clincher.

Clearly, the Blackhawks -- and their loyal fans -- will be missed.

Better NY tabloid story. The guy who played Bobby Granger now works for WWE

Also, a preemptive NY gets whatever NFL team LA gets

Steve Lepore @stevelepore

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final was also the #1 program on all of television -- broadcast or cable -- in Adults 18-49 last night.

It was also the most-watched game 1 since at least 2000 (except for last year)

So yeah, it's a nice start

gently caress Brad Richards. That signing has blown up in our faces almost as badly as the Scott Gomez/Chris Drury disaster.

Or that (anyone besides Jagr from 97-04) signing

Good news KAS, LA rated higher than Buffalo last night

It's official: Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final drew 6.4 million viewers, the most-watched Game 2 in America on record.

views: Most game 2's have been on cable, but still good for them, that's why we had the horse lead-in

I believe it was his first game in MSG too.

I heard some weird fact that he played a peewee game there between periods when he was 12.

Look at the bright side RAS, based on losers in the finals over the last 10 years, there's only a 66% chance the Rangers get buried in mediocrity after this.

But I'm very sure they're not gonna get back to the finals anytime soon. You know Boston will be back and Pitt will get better coaching I assume

e: One bright side of a sweep: Bettman will be greeted to boos or indifference, unlike LA
