I think it would be cool for the NFL to work out a deal where the incoming President (or his massive committee) gets to decide what the team name will be. It has the added benefit of getting to sell a poo poo ton of new merchandise every 4-8 years. Also, I think Snyder can still sue people selling merchandise for infringement, which even if he loses the case will scare off everyone other than Nike.

A bunch of KC teams have had weird local ties that aren't what you'd originally think of for their names. Chiefs there, Royals are for the American Royal (livestock show/rodeo), Monarchs were for the butterfly. I guess Kings were just Kings when they were here, although they were randomly the Royals too before coming to KC/Omaha. But yeah, if they want to change it I'm not terribly bothered as long as they come up with something half decent.

I really liked this idea: https://www.behance.net/gallery/11458543/Washington-Redhawks-Brand-Identity-Proposal Keeps the colors and tribute to the Native Americans the same, but just slightly alters the logo.

I find it funny that when the Media finally started to really hammer in how bad the Redskins name was that this happened. Not that I'm not glad that it has, but this does kinda screw over the people who can't afford to buy another jersey. It's gonna be nice how this will ripple and cause change with other racistly named teams, though.

If Washington were a well-run organization, they would arrange an exchange program for at least a discount. Unfortunately, we're talking about Dan Snyder, penny-pinching mastermind.

Silly liberals ... they will appeal and win the appeal again and the trademark is still in effect until a final ruling. Until a majority of the public or some high profile players speak out against the name they will keep it. The Redskins are still one of the most valuable franchises in the world and people who compare it to the Sterling case dont understandd the difference between changing your owner and changing the name of your brand.

So what basis do you have for believing the trademark will be reinstated? Because it happened last time based on a technicality that has been worked around this time? Or are you sticking with the "The Redskins are incredibly valuable and thus can do what they want" theory?

The "technicallity" was that the people brining the complaint did so after the trademark was in effect for quiete a long time and the courts ruled there is some kind of statue of limitations on filling complaints. Now they looked for younger indians that were underaged until very recently and hope to avoid this problem that way.

I think if the will is there, the Redskins will find a way to work around this and protect their brand one way or another. "If the will is there" is the operative phrase though, because there's going to be a point pretty soon where they decide it's not worth the headache anymore.
