I'd really like cybernetics. like robot arms and brain implants. poo poo would be pretty sweet and at the rate limb replacement tech is coming along I might actually get to have kicking rad robot legs (so long as we don't all die in the next 30 years lol).

its always really dumb when you have cyberpunk people being all broody about their sweet robot arms or their awesome robot legs or their washboard robot abs, same poo poo as when vampires get all about being immortal in movies and stuff. being immortal would own. having robot arms would own. immortal robot arm+leg+abs having vampire would be the owningest but i don't wanna dream too big you know

runupon cracker posted:None. A lot of today's tech is yesterday's science fiction, our productivity has skyrocketed as a result, and we're still killing ourselves working ridiculous hours in a capitalist society. Even if I could, say, teleport instantly from my house to work, that would mean everybody else could, too, and we'd be forced to work longer hours to compete. Honestly, I'd rather have the relative peace and quiet of the 20-minute commute from my house in a rural community. yeah but dude robot arms

Like yeah on some levels some of the wanky sci-fi tech wouldn't really change all that much because it'd still be in a society that doesn't use tech to ease burdens, just to increase productivity but also some of it would def. change the way the world worked as a whole. like capitalism would fall apart overnight if some dude invented a replicator (and then we'd all die in replicator wars i guess)

any augs that let you see/feel waves and forms of energy and light that you can't normally would be the poo poo like they can cut out some of your eye and you can see UV light but it'll blind you pretty quickly. it'd be cool if you could get that and also not go blind

Seriously though to try and argue that our current structures, political, social and economical would somehow survive the invention of a device that can make anything out of thin air is just dumb. I bet companies and people in power would fight pretty hard to limit its effects on their power and wealth but there would be some pretty intense changes in the way things worked. This is why most sci-fi kinda blows cause a lot of it doesn't really spend any time or energy on considering what the gently caress Wal-Mart would do if we suddenly were able to reproduce any item at will. the porn industry would be massively changed by the invention of sexrobots and robotic fisting arms.
