today I was thinking about the movie timeline. the only thing I really remember about it is that for the end I really needed to pee, but I didn't want to get up because it was so exciting. I was probably like fifteen maybe? I had poor taste back then though so I'm assuming it was a bad movie because I don't remember any of it, as i mentioned. the book timeline was pretty sweet though, it had lots of beheadings and sweet jousting scenes. a guy hosed a peasant and they made fire out of sulfur and poo poo. at the end a dude got quantam leaped into a pile of plague ridden corpses.

Dune. The book quasi-owned, at best, unless you're a spacedrug enthusiast. But the movie is bad enough to swing the differential.

harry potter. i consider the books to be british kiddie shite but the films are alright. shawshank redemption. Film is pretty close to the book but the short story had all sorts of stephen king'isms plus morgan freeman was a positive change.

Broseph Brostar posted:The Shining, if only because stephen king hates the movie. The Shining miniseries is way better than Kubrick's internal butthurt struggles. Steven Webber with a croquet mallet is incredibly compelling. I'm conflicted about Starship Troopers. For a Paul Verhoeven flick it is really good. The book was a better story though. I'd have to go with Cujo myself. The actors were laughable, some of the scenes are just so much funnier than they should be, and the sound score. That or that poo poo ROMEO+JULIET movie. Dear gently caress. That movie was terrible through and through. Good books + good movie Phantoms Christine Delores Claiborne Bad book + good movie The Great Gatsby

I read that when I was a teen and thought it was pretty sweet but holy god the movie sucked rear end. I dunno if the book would suck if i tried to read it today though Anyways, I would say Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy was a good book but lovely movie. also: - Narnia - The Golden Compass Maybe the Bourne movies as well, but it's hard to say since it's been awhile since I read the books. Has there been an adaptation of Frankenstein that actually followed the book ok? I got around to reading that this year and it was actually pretty good and seemed like it would translate to the screen easily

I like the LOTR movies, cartoons, and books in that order. Tolkien drags on and on in areas when he doesn't need to and his poems and songs are insufferable garbage. I'm 35 so I read the books first and re-read them as an adult. Elves singing will never be anything but prissy and boring.

Forest Gump Seriously, its like Winston Groom woke up one morning and thought "Hey, I want to make a non-science fiction version of Hitchhikers Guide." So much good poo poo was missing from the movie, like being a pro-wrestler named "The Dunce" and being an astronaut crash landing on an island of cannibals in the Pacific Rim. And being a hard-core pot head for awhile. If you haven't read it I highly suggest it.
